I was told by RED I was able to upgrade to the MX sensor at NAB. How do I do that?

I just purchased a used RED one. It doesnt have the MX chip its the original RED camera #2014 and it was purchased in January of 2008 I believe. The accesories are somewhat in a worn state. It is still in the orginal owners name which is a friend of mine. He is wiling to fill out the work for Stage 3.

Are you sure you want to broadcast you are trying to skirt around our policy to keep this camera's trade-in eligibility intact? Sounds like a good way get to your...I mean, "your friend's" Stage 3 eligibility revoked.

Jim was generous enough to offer the Stages program to reward early customers - that's why there was a cutoff for that eligibility a year and a half ago. I am sure he is thrilled to be taken advantage of.

Brent, based on his post here I'm guessing he doesn't know what the policy is...but from the wording of your post it sounds like he may have found out the hard way :p

busted...

you can shoot 4k onto the RED DRIVE btw... unless the hard drive has been tampered with.

welcome.

the latest firmware can be found on red.com under support, and/or on this forum: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread...E-Beta-Build-31-(v31.6.16)&highlight=firmware

i would highly recommend the mx upgrade, and definitely buy some cf cards (online at red.com store) especially if there is something wrong with that drive... also look into the ssd side module upgrade.

the epic upgrade paths are long over. once ordering is available, you can just buy an epic-x (same sensor design as red1 mx, better hardware and design thus more features and higher specs). so with the upgrade (or in some many without), those cameras can work well together. but the mx upgrade is super sweet, so if it makes sense financially, i'd do it. and get your paperwork sorted out.

This does bring up a good question...how do you guys make sure the policy is being complied with? What if this guy is just some dick that claimed he bought #2014 in some crazy jilted ex-lover sort of plot to stop them from being able to take advantage of the unbelievably generous offer you guys have made available? Based on what I've seen on the marketplace subforum, second hand Red One sales are at a pretty brisk pace.

Well, I suppose it doesn't really make much difference to me how you guys handle it, just the curious thoughts that slide through my brain once the clock strikes midnight :) And with that I bid you goodnight. Looking forward to my trip to Cali in August as I will get to make my first trip to Red Studios Hollywood!

"Make sure?" I guess we just have to rely on customers understanding the intent of Jim's Stage program and the generosity behind it.

Don't worry, we do our homework on posts like this - we make sure we have our facts straight.

Im not trying to take advantage of anyone. We want to get the MX upgrade. Would we be still eligible for it?

Ok i just saw that stage 3 isnt a MX... wow im a noob. We havent made the purchase as of yet. Would it be better/cheaper to buy a used red one, and then get the MX upgrade. Or to wait for the Epic??
