REDMote problem

I updated the firmware on the EPIC the day it came out to v1.6.12 and couldn't be more pleased. Along with that update were instructions and files for updating the REDMote too. That's where I'm having trouble.

I downloaded the redmote v771 update application a few times now and I've tried running it on a few different computers just in case too. There does not seem to be any problem with the update app, the problem is with this REDMote unit from what I can tell. The computer recognizes the redmote connection, but the update app tries for a few minutes to connect and then gives up.

When I connect it to the computer or power it up on its own, the screen shows what you see in the image attached below. None of the buttons on the redmote are responsive, Menukey1 doesn't do anything. There is no other EPIC within miles except the one powered down and packed away in it's case, so I don't know why the redmote is wanting to link with anything. It seems frozen on that screen and as a result, I assume, it won't update like it should.

Has anyone had similar problems? Is there a key combination to perform some kind of hard reset on the redmote? Any ideas?

I have a ticket opened already, just reading how awesome the new redmote update is and it is making me incredibly impatient.

@ Tom - Mac and PC, I've tried both.

@ Johnny - I had the EPIC and the REDMote set up prior to the most recent firmware update. But the redmote can't be used with the EPIC now until it also gets its update. So I guess the answer is no, it is not currently set up in camera.

Actually, you might want to run through all the steps you've performed....and of course should follow exactly as the directions for install. If on mac i recall having to delete i think the subnet mask within network settings....basically set only to manual AND only isp address. I'd start over on this with firmware upgrade etc....

Thanks Johhny, I'll look closely at those network settings again and try it another time.

i'd say then it's just a matter of following procedure then....you have to setup the camera via redmote first, then link redmote to the camera and serial number.

Therein lies the problem I think. The redmote is unresponsive and won't link to anything.

I gave it a try again. Can't link to the camera because I can't access the settings menu, or anything else, on the redmote.

When I try to run the upgrade app (according to the instructions in the accompanying pdf) I can get the redmote connection to be recognized by the computer but the application fails to connect. Might have to do with pairing issues that have been mentioned above.

I'm including some screenshots that show the connection settings and error message that occurs when running the update app.

:emote_headwall:

Good catch! I feel sheepish now.

But still, the same problem, even with the correct IP.

+1 to turning off your other network connections. This also means you should disable AirPort too.

There's a good bet that you have an IP conflict somewhere, 192.168.0.1 is commonly used by a lot of routers and other host devices. Can also get around the conflict by altering routing info for the update app, but it's easier to just turn other stuff off and do the update. In some situations, especially if it's a router or DHCP host, you may need to re-start your system after disabling the other network connections to clear your network tables, then do the update, turn those other connections on...

I had to do the update from a macbook pro after disabling airport.

Pain in the butt... i know.

yep, also recall doing this as well. i think i turned my airport off and moved out of range of my network--or possibly turned off the router all together---definitely another device was using same IP....so caused conflict--yet one ore possibility to check out.

I will definitely be giving these a shot tomorrow. Thanks all for the tips.

Took the redmote off the grid with a laptop, all is good now. Thanks for all the help!
