Does this camera have a image stabilization that help you to have a great stable shot? on the DSLR they don't have that and you need to have a rig or to have a stabilization lenses.

I wonder if in the RED scarlet it's already in the camera this way you don't need to buy IS lenses from canon etc.. That would one of the best feature. this way you can save on big rigs and you can create beautiful handheld shot.

Thank you so much
can't wait to have this baby. it will change everything. Just let it free :)

RED Scarlet fixed 8x or RED Scarlet body only with other lenses ?
If I remember none of them will have some kind of Image Stabilization.

I remember a red post that said Scarlet would have an stabilizer at the sensor, not cropping, but using parts of the sensor normally not used...

maybe... can't remember either, zac. we're not thinking of the three-axis motion sensor are we?

i was talking about the scarlet with canon lenses or other kind of lenses. maybe Jim can anwser the question.

oh, well if the lenses themselves have OIS, those should operate normally, i'd expect.

they maybe need to interface with the camera though, so it might have to be ones that are on the (ever-growing) list.

No, let me find the piece online, its gotta be here somewhere

The question is, with scarlet being a 2/3rd inch sensor, and the Canon Lenses being for APS-C sensors, the crop factor would be huge, (PURELY MY SPECULATION) and RED might not make a mount for Scarlet because it'd be impractical. (PURELY MY SPECULATION)

i remember talk about mounts for the scarlet interchangeable, but i don't know about electronic mounts for canon/nikon. and zac is right, most aps-c lenses become telephoto on 2/3...

if you have some really serious PL or canon L-series lenses you may want to look at stepping towards the Epic-S (formerly Scarlet S35)

also keep in mind the fixed lens should be really good, and the mini primes should be super sweet, plus options for 16mm and other glass around that size from broadcast, ENG/EFP, etc.

Yes i got 3 L series and i want to put them on the Scarlet. I remember that I saw some pictures of the Scarlet with the L series. Ted was saying that you can put nikon and Canon on them . it would stupid to have a camera that create telephoto images with kinda professional glass. is it a real fact?

the cameras not creating a telephoto lens... it's just a matter of sensor size. there's a crop factor. the lenses were built for aps-c size sensors, and you're putting them on 2/3"... it's just math and physics... it's a given if you want to use those lenses, they are going to be cropped.

so for exemple if i'm using a L series 28mm it's gonna look like maybe like a 35mm something like that?
what is the good option than ? with the fixed lense you can't use macro lense.
if you want to use lense that work perfectly with the scarlet they are gonna cost like 5k each?

.../QUOTE]

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the 28 would "crop" to about a 100mm equivalent. So, yes, most "normal" lenses are impractical on a 2/3" sensor.

that make totally non sense to make a camera that would create something like this

red want to give a super cheap camera but you have to spent 6k on every lenses ? that make no sense.

Not sure the conclusion you are jumping to makes sense... I am no lens expert but, at the least, RED is planning a set of mini-primes for the Scarlet Interchangeable with a price of about $950 each.

hmmm if they do that than yeah that make more sense.
I wonder what would be the difference with the one they have now.

Still it would be great they make the camera that can work with the nikon series, canon series with no problem.

Remember when comparing what you can do handheld with a dslr and a scarlet that there will be significantly less rolling shutter or "jello" issues when hand holding. So post stabilization and hand holding once again become an option, remember these are motion dedicated camera's unlike dslr's.

Yes to get a zoom lens that will cover a wide range and fit the scarlet and work for film or television work flows will be expensive, that is why there is the fixed. Plus there is plenty of old inexpensive c-mount and 2/3" lenses that can also be bought for the interchangeable they may require work arounds and be not as easy to use, but that is why it's great to have so many options!

PS. remember a lot has changed so who knows what will be announced or available so we should all wait until more concrete info is given before we jump to conclusions.

have a good one!

edit: they have announced canon Nikon mounts with full control of the lenses, though weather those will fit the interchangeable I'm not sure yet, may not work for wide or mediums but it will give you one hell of a selection of telephoto lenses for wildlife work among many other areas.

like i said, the scarlet interchangeable is designed to work with the most awesome miniPrimes at something like $900 a piece, or 16mm, C, B4. 2/3 lenses... etc. not necessarily dslr lenses. if you want to use those, put them on an epic. nothing silly about that, just different tools for different purposes. silly is trying to use the wrong tool for the wrong purpose. so do some research before you jump to conclusions.

and its not out of the question to have adapters on the fixed lens... i.e. fisheye, macro, telephoto, astro, etc.

Thank for the feedback guy

From what i've heard in so many interviews. a lot of peoples want to use their nikon and canon L series on the scarlet. that's why they want to use interchangeable lenses. they are great lenses and scarlet seems to be a great tools. I'm sure people dosen't to pay 12k for a epic ( the lower model) to use thoses lenses.

well let,s hope that RED can find a way to use thoses lenses with the scarlet to be a very powerful tool all together.

Just to clarify some stuff.

SCARLET refers to 2/3"

EPIC refers to S35

There used to be a Scarlet in the S35 lineup which would enable you to mount Nikon/Canon glass. That was when you would hear Ted speak about SLR glass on your interchangeable Scarlet. (which is partly the reason there has been some confusion regarding the Interchangeable 2/3" Scarlet brain)

The SCARLET will include 2 models.

F-SCARLET (Fixed Scarlet): will include an 8x Zoom lens which is unremovable due to its full integrability of the lens and the brain. It has an FF35 equivalent focal length of 28mm-224mm. This lens will be have a speed of T2.6/F/2.4 throughout the full zoom.

8sx.jpg

C-SCARLET (Cinema Scarlet): will be considerably smaller due to it's lack of the 8x zoom lens. It will utilize the new lineup of RED Mini Primes which have a "projected" cost of $900-$950 for each prime.

RED Mini Primes which have been mentioned are the:
6.5mm T1.9
8mm T1.5
16mm T1.5
25mm T1.8
50mm T2.9
75mm T4

The C-Scarlet will also have the option for a C-Mount and a B4 Mount for other lenses which are already on the market. Now that the S35 Scarlet has been moved to the EPIC lineup, there has been no mention from RED, regarding Scarlets with a mount for SLR glass from Nikon/Canon.

Hope this helps...
