If you went to NAB or the last REDUCATION some of you have seen the incredible aerial footage in the new RED REEL that D.P Kurt Soderling shot on Epic in the Eclipse ball with Ted back in April.

Jim just processed a great additional 2.5k clip with his one button RC-X look ( that he posted here ).

enjoy.

I want to see the world when hungry and daring filmmakers will get this weapon and will be able to show what they can do without millions dollars like majors companies!

I see lots of noise around where roads and cars are.. Is this only happening to me? or is this compression problem?

Agree. The noticeable contrast between high-budget and low-budget will be blurred. This camera democratises quality.

A tiny bit of low light noise exaggerated by a MP4 quicktime... It was more than likely shot at 800 asa and under exposed to keep the sky from going white. blacks lifted to get the amazing detail you see before you...

Have you shot 35mm that clean or Alexa or canon or F35 or anything for that matter.... in the same low light situation and from a helicopter.

I'd cut the dudes some slack.

Only thing that looks better is IMAX.

Great movie Jarred.

The artifacts and flicker you might be seeing are from the H264 encode.

This is a wonderful camera, but it won't give you a great script that spent months being fine-tuned by competent development people, it won't give you trained actors, it won't give you sets, it won't give you a skilled Streadicam operator, it won't give you lights... Yes it will help, a lot, but there's a lot of other ingredients in a film that looks "Hollywood", and is entertaining to a mass audience.

Yes, agreed. I think that can be a new Epic catchphrase "only exceeded by Imax".

I think this is true to some extent. But as Jim has said many times, it's a tool. Knowing how to use the tool to get the best pictures (for what you are going for) is a big part o fit.

I can often tell the difference between high budget and low budget films on many other factors: locations, costumes, make-up (or utter and complete lack thereof), set design (art design in general for that matter), and so many more things are required to make a good film.

The camera is just one tool and aspect of film making, and not necessarily the most important one for a quality film (although necessary for a film at all ;)). I actually find it funny that I'm arguing this point because often I'm trying to tell Producers that technology is a huge part of film making and they just don't get it (they often think things magically happen by themselves from great pictures to graph visual effects). LOL. I guess I've just done enough that I can see the big picture of all that makes a film great.

Of course not... that will all come in a firmware update next year!! :coolgleamA:
