So

You guys have made this little screamer a functional tool.

What is the "must have" kit to get it up and running.

1. Brooks top cheese-plate

2. XXX Handles (Side and top)

Please add to the list!
With links to products and prices...

For now, I am not interested in stuff exclusively related to 3D...

Cheers!

I have been testing out a capacitive stylus.

1. Targus Capacitive Stylus
2. Acase 2nd Generation Capacitive Stylus

They keep fingerprints off of the LCD and it is easier to push buttons through Hoodman with the stylus vs. my hand. :) The Acase is longer with a smaller tip, but I am not sure which one I like better.

Well I think that all our Videos and pictures show well what we use... ;)

But:

100mm Miller Compass 25 Fluid Head
Gitzo Carbon fiber Sticks + 100mm Ball adapter
Gearnex Gearhead
Sachtler OBI 2000 sticks
Arri MB28 Kit
RED Pro MB
Master Primes... he he
Red Pro Primes
Red Pro Zoom 18-85
Red Pro Zoom 17-50
RED CLUTCH (but I adapted the Pad with the Mantis version, even so I changed even the ET's shoulder Pad, just used their Metal adjusting system to the Clutch)
RED Spinner Kit, a must have for the Bomb EVF Pro

But I could make it easier and just say, everything here: http://www.red.com/store/rail-components ... ;)

Plus:
ET continues to pop out some serious stuff
Brook's ViewFactor top Cheese plate
Duclos 11-16
Wooden Camera accessories new designs look really cool
Watch out for Action Cam products some cool stuff there
For second monitoring on boar option need to get the SmallHD LCD
A good Back Pack since the Epic is so compact and can be carried as a regular DSLR kit any were, I do... ;)

If you want refer back for all pictures here: All our EPIC Pictures

Helpful. But again, the alternative here is to have the camera set up either for use on the tripod or, with a Mantis, for use on the shoulder - both in a cine-style configuration. I am after a configuration that lets me use the camera on the the tripod and shoulder with no re-configuration needed. Like I have with my Arri SR2, or with a 235, or less glamorous an ENG Sony camera.

I want the possibility to operate the camera without a focus assistant. The Mantis as a shoulder solution is nice if a focus puller is around. When operating on your own, when quick shots off the ground, from the hip, etc. are needed you want the bottom of the camera flat, a cut-out for the shoulder (no big comfort needed) and a meaningful balance. Also an easy system to attach the camera on the tripod (such as a Sachtler adaptor plate) in a second is a vital part of the configuration. And finally, the EVF (Bomb EVF) should be mounted in such a way that a change from tripod to hand-held is done in literally 2 seconds. The RedArm is no alternative here. For my RedOne I have the ET EVF system that might be bit heavy but at least is sturdy and quick to handle.

Can anyone point be to pictures that show me an Epic set-up that comes close to my ideas?

Thanks!

Hans

I don't have any pictures, but it sounds like you are going to like the Red Gunner, Red Pro Quick Release system, Red EVF Spinner, Action Cam bottom riser/audio inputs and top plate or Brook Willard top plate with wooden camera XLR inputs, a lightweight clip on matte box like the LMB-15 or Red Pro matte box, and an Arri mini follow focus. That will give you plenty of flexibility and a super lightweight configuration that can be easily removed from the tripod and placed on your shoulder in seconds. Hope that helps :)

Thanks for your tips.

The RedGunner ist not available yet, is it?

Red EVF Spinner looks like a small ET EVF solution. Maybe suitable. But I don't see any possibility to move the EVF for- and backwards. Will look into the products by Wooden Camera and Action Products, thanks of pointing me in this direction. The Arri mini FF is only mounted on one rod and hence prone to lose contact to the lens. I've got an FF4 already, not the lightest one but sturdy.

Still, does anyone have pictures of a camera in a classic shoulder/tripod 16mm doc-style configuration?

Hans

From the original Spinner thread:

There are 3 different lengths of rails remember.. so if you want more travel.. just put on a longer rail... in both axis ( for/aft and up down ) if you want.

Here is long...

A big part of what we love about the Epic potential is ability to scale down size while scaling up all the features this camera system can do. I'm waiting patiently for the on-board batteries, and lightweight rod support. For cable management (till batts arrive) id love to see these battery adapters (from AB and V mount) make an option that go directly to the new smaller Lemo pwr-in connector Epic uses, to get rid of the cable adapter needed.

Building BIG will have many options incuding lots of already existing technologies, but its the minimum size that's new and opens doors that have not really been available (other then dslr). From light weight steadicams, to taking the camera into places where lower profile will allow access to shots you wouldn't be able to get..... size matters! I can put this camera and a few lenses into a back back and ride my bike or hike to a spot I couldn't really get to without a much larger production foot print, etc.

Right now the picture below is as small as I can get the camera with the tech avail (except handles can be removed). Not too bad size, but it can and will be better. ;)

Erich -very innovative. I like it, and appears to be a a great way to hold the camera.

Jamison -the L bracket in the pic you posted is the one that's still missing in the Red Store...

Yep. I wasn't addressing that so much as the forward / backward adjustment question. I'm sure Jarred will let us know when the L brackets hit the store.

In my observations regarding the RedSpinner I was referring to the information I got from the Red Store. Than's for pointing me to the future...

Erich,

Great small setup. Thanks for the pics. Can you elaborate on the equipment you are using to attach the battery to the camera. I see you are using an ET speedy clamp but am not familiar with the piece attached to the camera.

Thanks,
Dan

Thanks for the pictures. I've seen such or a similar set-up several times. I know hat Epic is pretty small and that this opens new possibilities. And yes, that's a great achievement. However, I still would like to see a "classic" configuration that is made for EVF use on the shoulder and tripod WITHOUT changing anything on the camera. The palm-style is interesting but surely not a configuration I would normally use in production.

For reference please look at: http://www.aaton.com/products/film/xtera/index.php

Here you see perfectly what I'm talking about. Any pictures that show Epic in a similar configuration?

Hans, the short answer is that there is no such configuration available yet. There will be plenty of options in the coming months, including something I'm working on. Once the additional Epic modules are available it will be much easier. For now, you still have to rig a brick to the camera, and breakout options are limited.

The Spinner is brilliant -really well made and thought out...just need a way to get it to attach to the camera...even if we abandoned the L Bracket and attached via some manner of clamp onto the 19mm rods would be helpful. I'm not really sure how -maybe the Rod to Rosette Clamp with a dogbone? And/or Rosette Block?

And FWIW while I find the Action cam bottom plate interesting I have found the ET plate to be really simple and solid along with the front mount for 15mm setup...but I got that before Jarred got to putting out theirs.

However, getting back on track -the Wooden Cam A-Box is small and useful for the time being -but we must remember the Pro I/O module will be coming soon as well...and my theory is that if Red's still charging $2,900 for this to allow for XLR ins and dual HD-SDI out I would make a strong educated guess that such a device would have 444 out -at least to help us justify the expenditure and added size.
