Hey guys. I was fortunate enough to shoot this ad for Disneyland Star Tours. We rented an Epic-M from Keslow Camera and had a blast! Thanks to director Matt Wyatt, AC Brad Conlin, VFX artist Dave Codeglia, Music Composer Alfred Monejano, Zadi Diaz, and the teams at Lucasfilm and Disneyland. I had the BEST time on this.

I hope you enjoy watching, and welcome your feedback: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4_dZPVg8KI (available in 1080, and 2K if your computer can stand it)

EXCELLENT!

Now that is funny! I wonder how they allowed you to use Vader and the Troopers in a funny manner though? I thought they were rather strict about that? Either way, lovely commercial.

Thanks Graeme and others for the kind words. I'm happy to report our Vader is tame compared to this ... thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wvCTXwk_6k.
Kudos to RED on making an incredible machine. I pushed hard to shoot Epic and it really delivered in the Haunted Mansion, Tiki Room, fireworks, fast motion with no rolling shutter, and incredible 5K slow motion of Vader strutting in front of the castle. I still have 3-day smile pains in my face thanks to this shoot. It was my 3 favorite things at once: Star Wars, Disneyland, and RED. RedCine-X was the key to turning this whole video around in 4 days flat - from wrap to color and vfx. Great workflow.

That shoot HAD to be fun!

Congrats on a great little epic, er Epic...

James - thanks for the details on how you made it. It's great to know how well everything worked for you on such a tight time schedule.

That's freakin' awesome. :)

Absolutely Great Work. I can only imagine the attention you must have gotten with RED cameras and Darth Vader at a busy Disneyland.

Vader pulls out the the light saber in the Haunted Mansion -- WIN!

Good stuff.

As for the Star Tours ride, have they updated it? Or is there another reason for the new ad? I thought it kicked ass back when it opened in the '80s... Geez, I remember standing in line forever for that ride. Then I had my kids at Disney World last year and we happened upon it and walked in. So dated... It just didn't have the same magic that I remembered. Unfortunately, my kids just weren't into it. They're not into Star Wars anyway, but I blame that on the prequels. They just don't captivate and stimulate the imagination the same way the original trilogy did.

Yeah they redid the whole thing as a prequel/original crossover in CGI 3D- love or hate:

I know my kids will love to see this ride, but I'm very happy they've been on the original version. Is there no longer a "story" at the ride bit?
