  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I have been on backorder for Drives since August. So now that SSDs are shipping I would assume that delivering backorders first should be a priority for RED right? I could have had a baby in the 9 months I have been waiting! (which would be a major miracle considering my gender!)

Meanwhile, 2 productions currently shooting in the UK now have 300 x 128GB SSD cards delivered between them.

I'm sorry but I am pissed! Where is the Love RED? :mad:
 
yes 300!

2 x 3D Features shooting on EPIC-M. 1 has 200 x 128GB SSDs and the other one has 100!
you would have thought they could have spared a few for the "little people". Seems we don't matter so much any more?

Then we would just call you patricia - probably wouldn't even have to change your driver's license - but I want the reality show rights. :-)

Seriously, feel your pain - I have friends waiting on the 128s also for our underwater shooting, hope it gets sorted out soon.

What is it about us here in the UK...... if obama can get over here you can get some RED kit over here, and not just to the big boys, they have enough of the game. Get some gear over to the rest of us so we can make a living. WE have RED Europe, but it feels like we get the crumbs from the table.
 
I'm not surprised Alan doesn't have any 128GB SSDs seeing as 2 x UK productions already have 300 of them... But they didn't order them 9 months ago now did they! Are you suggesting I double up on spending and get 256 SSDs instead? Good idea.

Oh wait; I just gave US$ 160,000.00 to ARRI for 2 x Alexas and another US$80,000.00 to another camera company....

I'm surprised Alan has any hair left. He knows how much I have pushed RED (380 camera hire days last year) and I have said that I would rather spend it with him on EPICs, BUT i need kit NOW. Business does NOT wait. I can't afford to tie money up and not have it work.

Sadly, REDs reputation has been damaged in my eyes by some of the EPIC-M stories I am hearing. Full payment being taken and then no delivery schedules available . The feeling I get is that they don't seem to care any more about the "little people" who helped make them. I hope I am proven wrong. RED, offering people a full refund of US$58,000 is not an option and is not the way to treat loyal customers.

Was just letting you know that it seems the 256gb are being delivered to the 'little people'. I hope the 128gb ones will folow quickly.

I am sorry you are so upset, but only wanted to let you (and other people who are waiting in Europe) know something was happening...

yes sorry about that! I was not meaning or wanting to take a pop at you directly. Please accept my apologies. I am just really wound up by the whole situation and RED seem to not care at all.
I may just grab a couple of 256 SSDs. They will be useful for concerts etc in the future. If I get them now at least i've actually got them right :)
 
Apparently 128GB has been the sweet spot, and in drastically short supply. The 64 and 256 on the other hand have not been as popular and are more or less available.

I have had an order for 2 x 128 since November, but since it's just to support my Epic X, I'm not too fussed how long it takes.
 
RED SSD 64Gb cards are in stock it seems, I ordered 256Gb cards the day they were announced and the are on their way as we speak.

I understand RED´s need to support the BIG-TIME productions, it benefits us all in the long run, they´re allowed to cut in line a bit, and in return we all get the benefit of the good publicity/rumors/credibilty that arises! if you don´t care about that at all, I can feel your pain a slight bit. To me all that stuff matters.

you should be able to get some 64Gb cards right now I think, they are not that much more expensive pr. Gb.

We actually do care quite alot.
We've stocked up as much as we can but we can't always predict supply chain issues when they arise.
In the case of the different capacities, the popularity of the 128s completely overwhelmed the supply.
The 64s and 256s are shipping steadily and we expect to be caught up on back order for the 128s
pretty quickly.

For a couple of the large productions, media was committed before we started taking orders.
Outside of the large productions in the UK, there are more ssds there than any other
country except the US.

The RED ONE 1.8" SSD MODULE, REDMAG 1.8" SSD 64GB, and REDMAG 1.8" SSD 256GB are all currently in stock and shipping. The REDMAG 1.8" SSD 128GB is currently back ordered as Deanan mentioned.

Ok Thanks Deanan. It's a new day...yesterday I had a flashback moment as my first RED sat on the shelf for 3 months waiting for Drives to be delivered. meanwhile i still had to make loan payments...i've had a sleep and am calm now! I look forward to receiving 128GB SSDs when they are ready. In the meantime I will get some 256s...

Sorry for throwing my rattle out of the pram! All is good with the world.
