  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Wow. Trier strikes again.

I will never see another Von Trier Film - nothing to do with Nazi humour or cannes. The man killed an animal for a shot in his film and in my book that makes him a self-centered d1ck. Get some perspective. Personally I'm delighted Cannes threw him out. Goes around, comes around.

I remember that story. 1st, the animal was down for slaughter anyways - and it was done by a veterinarian. 2nd, it were cut out of the film due to controversy.

Yeah - that sounds like the kind of lazy self-serving platitudes Von Trier put out after it came out in the press.

Now with his newly humourous political leanings, he might well jovially say that people sent to the camps were going to die eventually anyway.

The actor, John C. Reilly saw fit to leave the shoot over the kiling of the animal. Respect to you, Mr. Reilly.

Nice to see some people have princlples while others will do anything to get noticed, be it killing animals for their "vision" or making public attention-seeking fun of genocide.

On the other hand, his contrite, grovelling apology when it had become inconvenient for him personally was very telling of his character. Maybe next time he'll think before he opens his mouth / kills anything / joins a muderous fascist regime.

My interpretation was similar to Eric's. He said a little stupid thing that of course he knew the media would mis-read. So his reaction was to say "ahh screw it, yeah I'm a baby eater. I eat babies. They're delicious. Especially with Rosemary."

It's an attempt to expose the stupidity of an accusation by embracing the accusation to that of its most absurd conclusion.

"You won't wear a pink pin? Do you not support cancer research?"
"No. I hate cancer research. In fact I've been working hard on new carcinogens in hopes of marketing them and creating contagious cancer that is airborne."

James T Mather: Most people eat animals. How can filming it be immoral - or any more immoral than the act of killing and eating an animal? Do I smell some double standards.

Your comment: "joins a muderous fascist regime." - it's quite out of line.

Hitler did not eat meat.

Jon Michael Puntervold: Why is it out of Line? I was running with Von Trier's line of humour. Too strong? Would you eject me from a film festival for it?

Double standards? By that you are presuming that I am a carnivore - maybe it is your own double standards you refer to. You seem to be arguing in favour of vegetarianism rather than anything to do with on-set conduct - Just because most people do something doesn't make it right (to wit: Nazi Germany). So no: No double standards from me but thank you for inviting me to elaborate.

I did not know that Hitler was not a carnivore - I still don't really find that any vindication of his character but thanks for the factoid though.

I think this is a thinly veiled swipe at the Cannes audiences- since the Mel Gibson film got a standing ovation.

I think there is definitely this awareness going on.

Watching the video clip it seemed like he said something which was a little snarky and it fell flat, so instead of backing away - he just tried to dig deeper which makes perfect sense with his personality. But it's an odd clip because you can sort of see that he knows he's not reaching this audience at all and he keeps pushing.

Okay, I'm the one with double standards - it's true. I hate how modern farming and slaughtery works, but I'm weak for a nice juicy steak - even from mother cow.
