I've got a color grading demo next week Saturday and would like a R3D clip or R3D frame that shows banding artifacts in the sky. I'm trying to demonstrate the difference in 8 bit monitors vs 10 bit monitors. my email is andrae at facetmedia dot com

Andrae,
you using the FSI 2460 or 2461W monitor?
I'm searching like hell to find some banding shots....but i just cant find any. Only place i know to find in my case are shooting up into sun underwater. Was going through a lot of my time lapse sunset shots, but found (to my astonishment) no banding in my red footage. I'm sure i have some, but after 20mins of searching i find nothing.

Andrae:

I have a clip of a crescent moon in a twilight sky that bands when you compress it to H264 if that helps. Email me at richard@fosterent.com and let me know where to upload it if you want it.

I've got the LM-2461W... originally it was the 2460 then i got it upgraded. I've got some gradients created in FCP that can demonstrate the banding... but I would like to find a real world example.

Thanks Richard... unfortunately though I need the clip to be in R3D. Then I'll switch it from 8bit displays to 10 bit displays.

Andrae:

Not following you. This was shot on RED MX and I have the original R3D files. Also a wider shot.

You said it bands when compressed to H264. I would like to see banding in the original R3D clip when switched form an 8 bit monitor to 10 bit.

Andrew,

I've checked my email and don't see it even in the spam folders. Can you please send it again to andrae@Facetmedia.com

Maybe you could side light a smooth white card with a Kino and use a zoom slowly running through it's focal range, to hopefully find a range of brightness from one side to the other of the frame that your 8-bit monitor will break with?

Make sure that you have 48MB free in you MBox.

Just sent you one e-mail without the file and second e-mail with the file.
