We just got our new Red-One the other day and I'm learning it as fast as I can.

It is one VERY fine piece of equipment, and we're very happy with it.

On page #116 of the Operations Guide, it says that if the CF media is removed from the camera without "UNMOUNTING" it first, there could be problems. I have looked and looked, and I cannot find anywhere in the guide where is says how to do this.

If someone would be kind enough to explain the unmounting procedure, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

Hold down the "Undo" button and the "Exit" button down at the same time for a couple seconds.

Hold these buttons down until an "X" appears in the Media box. It will also say "No Digmag" (No digital magazine) across the top of the rear display.

You can now remove your unmounted CF card safely. :001_smile:

OK, I did what you guys said, and nothing. No "X" appeared in window.

I have not actually shot anything yet, so the card was empty. Was that the reason it did not X-out? Or, have I missed something here?

Also, you mean to say, that every single time you take out the CF card you have to do this procedure? I guess you better not be in a hurry then, eh? If true, I think that is a problem Red should fix.

Yes, you have to do this procedure every time to avoid taking a chance that it will corrupt your media - it's no different than unmounting drives or solid state media when connected to a computer. If you don't unmount, you may be lucky a few times, but at some time the camera will be trying to write or communicate with the media when you disconnect without unmounting and you will lose footage. If it was a tape, you'd have to eject and wait for it to unlace. It's no slower than that, and usually faster.

I think it usually works better for me if I hold "Undo" down first and then press "Exit" while continuing to hold "Undo". The X pops up fairly quick on the back of the camera. One thing I have issue with is sometimes cards don't want to mount again or take a while to do so...

This is also true for me. If I try to press down the 2 buttons at the same time it doesn't work.

Do as Christopher says and you'll be OK.
