  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

corporate tyranny

Simple solution, don't buy it!

too easy - most people doing the higher end upgrades already have a mondo investment in Mac software and peripherals, etc., etc. - "don't buy it" implies throwing away a much larger investment, in this case.

I'm with Zakaree on this one - Mac just gets weirder and weirder for professional use, lately....I don't know what to make of it.

No big deal. It's got a Thunderbolt port. You will be able to hang as big and fast a drive off that as you can possibly want.

EDIT> Nevermind...

I think I smell more FUD than anything here. Methinks that we only need to install an HDD that supports the SATA 2.2 or 3.0 monitoring protocol. Sure, yeah, that does restrict our HDD choices somewhat, but whatever. I'm reserving final judgement until I can try it myself.

The article at Engadget is stupid. 7-pin power/control connectors on HDDs are pretty standard these days.

theres hacks to disable any proprietary firmwares ;-)
it just sucks having to go through that route...

I like being able to buy the machine and then use whatever i need to use..

part of the reason why I went the hackintosh route

I don't think Apple did this to force sales on their own hard drives.
99% of iMac users don't upgrade the main OS drive, most people couldn't care less.
iMac's aren't designed to be customizable power machines... installing a drive in an iMac is a HUGE pain in the ass.

The solution is don't buy an iMac.

Get a Mac Pro
or a Macbook Pro

by the way: OWC figured out a workaround so the point is moot.

+1

iMacs are stupid if you're going to be doing anything serious with your system beyond Photoshop. I just hope they don't dis-continue the MacPro line... I love my giant power tower. I can just pop the hood and throw new crap in there whenever I need to...

Ahhhh, it's all an evil plot by Apple. Run for the hills! Now that they have a monopoly on the personal computer market (?) and everyone has to buy whatever they say, they can forget about pleasing their customers and meeting their needs with better technology; now Apple can just screw us all with whatever components they can get the cheapest. Don't you just hate it when companies change things?! They claim it will work better but what do they know anyway??? Besides, they are probably following us around via our iPads and iPhones just so they can kidnap us and steal our money. I just hate it when companies force me to do stuff! :willy_nilly:
