WTB Kessler Cineslider. 3' preferred but will consider 5'. Also need outrigger feet, high-hat, ball adapter, etc. Adam at archaimedia.com

I was going to suggest you have a look at a slider. You should get BOTH 3' and 5'.

I've rented a 5' slider myself for two weekends and two days this year alone.

I've even had clients asking for me to bring longer sliders to the package. They see that there is no dolly grip, and they feel as though that speeds moving camera shots on set. (I disagree, but clients sign checks right?)

Still looking.

I missed the group buy by a day because I thought it was through that Friday but apparently it was until that Friday. Dammit. Anyway, I'm curious about the other options but don't have a convenient way to try them out at the moment, being out here in the country as I am. Another thing I should have done at NAB... My biggest priorities are portability and smooth stops and starts. I've done a lot of web research but it only goes so far.

I saw this option, which might fit two rental niche's at once for you:

MSRP is a bit high, but its an interesting bit of kit. R&R is thinking about buying one, and frankly I'm interested too. It makes a lot of sense to combine the jib and slider capability for a small operator like me. I'm not clear if it can be used as a jib+slider simultaneously though- or if it has to be in one "mode" or the other.

I does look interesting, and if the music's included then I could use it for my next porno. ;) If you hear of anyone around who has one, please let me know. I'd like to try it out. I still may need a short slider though for remote locations.

Just re-watched the MSE video, and it seems to be modal. I can't tell for certain- but that's my take.

If it is, then I'm seriously considering a Long Valley Seven Jib with a slider. The Seven Jib is cool because it mounts on 100mm tripods by default, and accepts a 100mm head. In an Epic world those sticks and head offer plenty of support. It can mount on Mitchell as well. (You need a $35 optional knob.)

Certainly that latter option looks cheaper, and its not that much more gear to tow about.

Have you looked at the Cinevate Atlas slider? Its a good system, and fairly lightweight. Plus you can get different lengths by just getting different size rods. I've seen it used with 8' rods, but the longest Cinevate sells is 5'.

The down side is that its a bit loud for film gear. When I used it it had metal bearings that made a sound that was picked up readily by the camera and any mics mounted to it. It's probably only a modest problem for normal sound recording. Other than that it was pretty cool.

I demo'd this at NAB and its EXTREMELY well built... I like Kessler products. but this is in another class... hence the price tag. But mechanically SUPER SUPER BUTTER SMOOTH. and ROCK solid

Can Jib OR Slide... doing both simultaneously would make for a pretty rough shot to keep steady... think about it ;)

Oh, I do love a challenge.

I shot a commercial on such an arrangement, and it IS unsteady - but you can make smooth moves.

Actually I shot two. On one we had a jib on a dolly. The dolly grip kept running into me as I tried to operate. That was harder to keep stable actually, despite having a more stable platform. Did I mention being repeatedly beaten by a dolly during the shot?

So, its totally doable - I mean I can do it so I assume lots of others can.

If not then I'll take my SOC card now. And jobs ... you should all hand me lots of jobs. Highly paid jobs. ;)
