  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic Battle of the 3D Rigs - Pro's and Cons

Lucas, with this new 3space tech how important is it to have matched sets of lenses. For instance if I rented a second, un-matched set of Optimo Rouges to go with the set I already own would the system compensate for any differences in physical alignment or tracking?

Evin - short answer is - yes, the system would compensate for differences. Part of what IntelleCal does is go through the entire zoom range, analyze and compensate for any mismatches along the zoom range, and also deal with any vertical misalignments along the range.

The SIP doesn't really care what lenses are mounted. It is just looking at images and dealing with what it sees and is then able to translate that into what it "learned" about the motors through the IntelleCal process.

Ketch! So mysterious! LOL. I get it. And can't wait to see more, though I think ET or 3Ality will be more than high-end enough for my needs, since will be most commercial work.

Congrats on the rigs being delivered :) One thing I'm curious about ... it seems that 3Ality is big lighter/smaller and thus maybe better for handheld... is that true?

Anthony

Well, Anthony as promised, today we tested put an early Prototype, this is a larger size then the actual rig will end up been in its Production size which will be smaller, much smaller.
Can't say much at this time, other then I have been completely blown away by what I saw today and that my entire opinion of a 3D rig has yet changed again... ;)

Our friends at E3D really have done it!! We mounted our EPIC M's on the rig and placed on a nice Cartoni Lambada head and tested out few shots, INSANE AMOUNT OF CONTROL..
It is all I can say at this time, more coming in the next few days... ;)

Awesome Ketch! Really appreciate your contributions to this thread -- hopefully it will become a great educational resource for those looking into the various high-end 3D rigs, their features, pro's and cons and more. Look forward to hearing more about what's in the image as well :)

Awesome Ketch,

Can't wait to be rolling with you guys on Wednesday.

Makes our Omni rig look giant!

If it shoots anything like the Omni rig, and from what I've heard it does even better. Will be seeing some B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L, 3D images.

How's the setup time?

Most welcome Anthony.

Albert, we'll sure have some more fun on wednesday on this short, for NDA reasons I can't talk too much about i.. for now.
I can say that what you sow, and what is actually pictured above, is a very first prototype of the actual E3D new 3D rig to be,
and it will be much smaller and lighter, as far as setting up times, all I can really say for now, is that it is so far the fastest rig to set up,
but to align is ridiculously fast and completely hands free off the rig, done wirelessly on an iPod... ;)

Anthony,

What we can say is the shoot on Wednesday wen't very smoothly, and we were able to accomplish a lot in a very short amount of time. (Faster than I have seen things done with most other 3D rigs), the only issue we ran into was the result of a flaky AJA GEN 10 which we promptly replaced.

Thanks to Ketch bringing his Epics, and the E3D Speed Rig the footage looks beautiful.

Sorry to keep everything wrapped in secrecy, however for the time being I am one more person telling you it's incredible what they are doing. There's been a lot of time and thought put into this system, and I truly believe in what they are doing.
