  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rich Schaefer

Well, I have to report my first day of shooting with my Epic M was totally tremendious!!!

It is so kick ass to shoot all day at 5k 60fps and be able to hold it in one hand. When I was shooting my non-hand held stuff, I was using light weight video sticks!!!! It is so bloody portable and convenient (with out the compromises of the 5d)!

She performed absolutly flawlessly. No false starts, no hangs, never a need to re-boot! Even when I was asking for a mistake like using HDRx with too high a frame rate and too high a compression it warned me and gave me the choice to proceed. The chose to proceed and she just fixed the pariameters (lowered the compression in this case) an imeadiatly allowed me to take the shot. I am transcoding all 101 clips now and it all looks amazing. It dose have a different look with the bigger sensor, shallower like a 5d (I know I pains me to mention the 5d) but without all the compromises for the portability!

Straight from the factory into the fire and my Epic came out and tore it up! I love this machine. I will post some pix soon.

Prost,
Rich

Thanks Rich,
I love hearing stuff like this and I love how you have kept the unit small.
Did you get the little hod from hoodman, or made it up yourself. ?

You need that little left hand side handle TED had on his. ! I'm trying to hunt down where they come from.

RED's created the side handle you seem to be referring to...it has just not been placed in their store for public use.

To each his own (including personal preference), but I do not really care too much for shooting with that side handle. I'd rather grip closer to the center of gravity...like where the titanium lens mount is (if not directly on the lens).

On the other hand, I know of others who still prefer the handle. I guess you just have to try it out for yourself.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that getting that yane doesn't seem like the "no-brainer" purchase as is the case with many of RED's products. ;)

P.S. The top handle for me will be a "must have" on 100% of the setups I will have. I love that little piece greatly... Hehe

Yes that top bracket does seem like a major must have as well.
Good to no that the side handle is a red product.
I couldn't find it anyway. I'll be onto that when it comes out.
Oh and remember you have been very lucky as hardly any of us mere mortals have even seen one of these things in the flesh.
Thanks for the info.

Hey Rich thats great news. Great to meet you in person at NAB too! one of 'The RC's first victims :-)
Hi Jas, it was great to be on the RC so long ago and it was great to finally get to shake your hand and say hello in person!

Thanks Rich,

My Key grip whipped up that little hood up out of blackwrap for me that morning. I need to get a little hoodman- has anyone figured out if there is one already?

I have seen and held Teds handle a couple times but I agree with Joseph that I dont think I want it because I like to have my fingertips available to adjust the lens.

Yes, I found the same thing. I need a top handle. I would love to get the cool sliding one I saw at NAB.

Rich,

You dog. Congrats man. Didn't know you were in the Q to get an M. Would love to crash one of your jobs to check out the new baby.

Happy Shooting.
Dave, any time, or u can come over and we can have a beer ;)

Congrats Rich,

supposed to be that you are the first Austrian joined Epic-M Club, right???!!!

Great news!!!

Sanjin, thanks much. Sort of, I guess my Austrian wife is! My passport is US blue, hers is EU Red ;) You too can check it out if I bring it over to the Alps next time, although it makes me a little nervous considering the karma #007.

Prost!

Are Bomb EVF's shipping with the latest Ms? I've seen lots of LCDs in the photos. Congrats on the camera!

Those BOMB Evf's are as rare as rocking horse shit.
I haven't seen many either, there must be literally thousands! on back order. I ordered 3 of them a year ago.
Someone told me that has actually seen and touched a working BOMB evf, says it's almost a spiritual experience when you look through it. Like looking through glass!

ooooo baby...

Here is my take on my Epic now with a couple real days of shooting on a real job:

it's the most bad-ass tiny little super-computing-mo-fo going! The best analogy I can give is that shooting Epic is like shooting broadband everything else is like dial-up (including 35mm, and I have $300k of film cameras they are larger and have more mass.). Once you taste it, its real hard to go back!

Prost,
Rich

Rich, many thanks for having me out to the ranch to check out your EPIC-M. Like I said, it just seems different when someone you know has one vs. the ones i've seen at RSH.

Anyone that needs a rental, Rich has it all. But most of all he has EPIC-M!
