  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

No. of Epic -m's out there....

471 thats impressive, looks like there will tens of thousands of epic cameras out there when the stage 3 is done, this is really the most succesful and also well marketted camera ever made....

If it makes you feel any better, I have a deposit down on an Alexa (although I've decided I'm not going to buy one), and Arri's #1 reseller just told me that they've only received one camera this month!!!

I'm in line for an Epic-M, and hope it comes soon, as I'd like to be the first rental house in the Mid-Atlantic with one (all the other houses have Alexas)!

It's probably fairly simple, folks - Jim said

"EPIC-M. We are making machined body parts and purchasing individual parts and pieces at extraordinary prices now to continue production of EPIC-M."

M- is made from parts purchased at "extraordinary prices" - They can't make X at the original price point until they can find the individual parts and pieces at original, non-extraordinary price points.

Simplier would be :

Making the Epics X and tell the customer : You can get them NOW with the "extraordinary price" increase, wich will be sinificantly smaller than the Epic-M price point.

My 2 cents.

Look, you don't set up a production line that can churn out hundreds of cameras and then use it to build a few dozen cameras - it just makes no sense. EPIC-M is churning out just as fast as it can be done at the moment - why the hell are we still beating this very dead horse? EPIC-X is not ready to ramp up full production without those parts - as soon as they're there you can expect to see cameras rolling out the door. Okay? End of story?

(...and please, the ridiculous conspiracy theories...)

That comment seems a little aggressive and out of place. This thread has been pretty simple and polite and included a few observations and questions. No one should ever have to give up their right to observe and ask questions - even if they're sitting on an ambiguous waiting list.

My EPIC-M is arriving early next week!!!

Congrats, Norm!

I just got my notice to finalize order and send money... So soon for me too. :)

As for the rest of the thread, there's not much more to say. Epic-M is special. They only have so many parts and they can only make them so fast. RED is picking and choosing who gets them, so it's not necessarily a first-come, first-serve deal and it's not directly off of RED One #. They're trying to put them into the hands of people with visible productions and/ or those who will provide good feedback on the current beta state of the cameras that don't have all the features enabled. Those who have a history of providing feedback with the early RED One and other software tools. The M is not for everyone, but for those who can work within the limitations of the current state of the system can provide a lot of useful feedback. The M also costs a premium and funny enough, the last thing I'm going to want to do with my M is rent it out. I'll go on jobs with it and operate or be AC, possibly DIT, but it's by no means going to be part of the rental fleet. The M is something special. I want to be able to look at it a few years from now and admire it for what it is. Hopefully I'll keep it in the same condition as the RED Ones I've owned -- not a scratch on it, even though I use it for all sorts of things. Epic is going to be used even more. The form factor is amazing... I don't think I'll go anywhere without it (well mostly anyway). It will be used to shoot everything from my kids' birthday parties to feature films. One of its first jobs is going to be a feature and hopefully a 3D one. Meryem should have more to say about that... :)

I see EPIC-M as the only way for early RED One Stage-2 owners to be able to get (2) EPICs anytime soon. I have had enough experiences in my life where I only had one of something extremely valuable and revenue-generating and when it goes down or has issues, you are really in trouble. Plus 2 is a requirement for 3D.

Remember that a lot of EPICs out there are going to be used for 3D so 2 EPICs often means 1 unit in the field. The demand is insatiable.

I wonder how many people who are getting their M are going to pass on their Stage-2 X... Ketch Rossi has already said he will only be running M's so this may be moving the rest of us closer to the start of the line...

Everyone that has placed a deposit on Stage-2 will take delivery. Just a clear-cut case of economics. Some may opt to sell theirs to help pay for their EPIC-M's but no one will pass on Stage 2.

none. why would a stage two owner pass on something they already invested $5k in + lose out on the bonus discount Red offered?

The $5k is refundable. Still, I think it is unlikely that any Stage 2ers who also go M will pass on the X option.
