Am I doin' OK Martin?

(Thank you, very much agree with the points you make. We are all (after a fashion) in this together after all.)

Great post - agree.

Posting private emails without permission usually causes grief and embarrassment, and isn't very professional.

Thanks to the vast majority of you who help making reduser such a resourceful, enjoyable, civil and educational place.

The past couple of days got me to dig for this thread, which apparently needs to be pointed out to a few members.

  • Criticism is healthy, but keep it constructive, never revert to getting personal. And keep criticism in boundaries, avoid extremes — things are never a one-in-all solution, nor "total piece of crap".
  • Try to only post when you have something to add to the conversation.
  • When you are implying something, don't make it sound like a fact
  • When you reply to someone who has implied something, don't make it sound like a fact
  • Assume that other people are basically nice — Don't automatically assume the worst or a hidden agenda
  • If you have a project planned that relies on Scarlet/Epic, have a plan B ready. "But Jim said…" does not qualify as such a plan.
  • When someone attacks you, try to remember that it only reflects badly on them. Try to let it pass. Alert the moderators, rather than replying
  • Don't feed the trolls
  • Don't judge a new tool solely by something you've read/heard somewhere. Wait until you have actually tried it.
  • Don't use foul language. It reflects poorly on you. Remember that this is an open forum and is indexed by all search engines. Your profanity, once posted, will stay forever connected to your name.
  • Don't attack members for sharing their experience with gear the rest of doesn't yet have access to. They are doing this as a service to us.
  • It's not cool to make light of the disaster in Japan.
  • When there's a major announcement by a related company, chances are that someone has already started a thread on it. Use the search function before posting. Try a customized google search for better results.
  • Don't call us communists or censors simply because a moderator or admin removed or closed a thread.
  • When you are excited about an announcement, please refrain from informing us about your rectal malfunctions.

Like this?

(Sorry, too easy)

I would recommend another one:

Don't quote giant images unless there is going to be confusion about what you were referring to.

e.g. if RED posts a new photo of Epic we don't need 3 pages of the same photo in quotes with your one word exclamation. General rule of thumb: your response should be at least as large as the thing you're quoting.

And if there would be confusion, feel free to get creative:
<Jarred's picture of Red Handheld Rig>
Will this have a quick release?

Amen, Gavin.

Also, don't clog announcement threads in the Recon sub-forum with posts like "Thank you, Jim!!!!shift+1!11!" and "RED IS AWESOME!" because they don't add the discussion.
