  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tonight 7:pm PST FCP Supermeet- Switchers or Quitters

I saw that...I thought he meant wasn't happening UNTIL... I was thinking it was tonight's event, that Apple held him back. Oh well...a little disappointing in that case.

hang on, its 299 but thats through the Mac App Store, so...what happens to the old FCS? The entire suite has been wiped clean for just FCP X? No upgrade price or anything? (not that im complaining, just wondering...)

I bet $299 is ONLY the Final Cut Pro app and is independent of the others...just guessing here.

since I could not deduce this from the crotch cam, is it two windowed source /record? or whatever the FCP term is? xml export, import. Effects?

I guess the Union will still Stay Avid. $299 just kills it for the elite folks.

It sounded like the source window is now incorporated into the finder window...so 3 primary windows now.

I guess they can't obviously announce everything

If its $300 an app, that's madness, I guess the problem with the Mac App Store they need to sort out is the ability to do a Package together for Apps
It didn't seem though apart from normal color matching and all that you can't go as deep as Color could and that motion was integrated but not fully yet?
Almost like FCP 9 will include everything but for now this is like starting back at scratch with a super advanced incredible iMovie?

Edit:

"Final Cut Pro X #Supermeet Livestream - Just talked to Randy Ubilios from Apple, they do not give info about anything else than FCP today" via @NinoLeitner

So guess the other apps are to come closer to the time or when they update the FCS page we'll see?

Color and Soundtrack said to have been integrated

Why not, it's shipping in June. For those there, was there some stuff held back? I couldn't get a live feed to see exactly what they revealed tonight, only bits and pieces from twitter.

If anyone can post a link to a recorded stream of this event... please.

Not the one of the floor from the back of the room where you can't hear, already saw that one. : )

Is this really just Final Cut Express slightly enhanced, with the rest of the studio family left to die, or what is going on?

I work for a union trailer editing company. Trust me - if we could get what we needed for $299 we wouldn't mind at all!

So... did they talk about any of the stuff us people who edit scripted drama might be interested in?

- Rendering in the background sounds kinda cool but we don't render much at during the creative edit.
- New trim tool has me unconvinced. You don't trim by visually looking for the exact right frame. You trim by rhythm, so you have to play it.
- I like the idea of having audio attached to a clip... but I also like the fact that in Avid I can rename my A1 to be DX1, my A2 to be DX2, then FX, MX, etc... So, if the audio is attached to a clip and you go to mix, what track does it go to? Will your OMF start with all of the V tracks, then go to A1, etc?
- Anything about collaboration features? Cloud stuff? I'm editing a short with my fellow director in Japan - we just have the project shared on Dropbox and Avid manages everything so that we can edit at the same time. Does FCP match this sort of stuff yet?

So far I'm sticking with the exact same plan - just play with all 3 and use them on the jobs that suit (to me, that's usually Avid).

EDIT:

OK Cool. Add to the "potentially cool list"
- magnetic timeline
- auditioning different versions of edits

Umm...?

There seemed to be some excellent new features so the candy-coated looking UI may be deceiving.

Oh my lord. I can't take this.

This isn't even close to Final Cut Express...only the price is. Sheesh...never mind. I give up...this is silly. People need to wait and get it before drawing these types of judgements. They just rattled off about 30 great new features and all people are doing is knocking it. Oy.

I wonder since they are talking about a ceiling of 4k, how that effects RED 5k footage. I mean at this point they didn't announce any RED support natively and 5k is here already.

Legitimate question, Chris. I'm bummed no talk of RED from Apple. I sure hope there is an alliance at work there with shared information, but I have a feeling it's not as tight as I had hoped.
