Did anyone get their Epic-X before NAB 2011 or was that postponed due to the crisis in Japan? I didn't hear anything on the boards but maybe there are some lucky shooters out there with one?

Curious ...

well jim said there will be delays due to the unfortunate happenings at japan, they will meet the time mark of of all deliveries before end of summer but most will be put to backorders meaning there will be minimum deliveries at the begining of the delivery span and much crowded deliveries near its end. hope this helps

This is what Jim said a couple of weeks ago:

While we have a handful of production parts for EPIC-X and will deliver them before NAB as promised, we are now looking at how to make more EPIC-Ms available to EPIC-X customers because there will be a delay in EPIC-X production due to the "Japan-effect".

We still feel that we can deliver all EPIC-X orders by summer's end but it will be "back-end" weighted. April and May will be "light".

Jim

It doesn't look like they were able to get the handful done that they were expecting.

The beginning of Stage 2 (Epic-X) is a pretty big deal, so I assume that RED would have announced it, even if it were in small quantities. They were supposed to deliver before NAB, which started today. If some people are secretly taking delivery of Epic-X (not M), I'm happy to be proven wrong about this.

Nice question. The community needs to know how many cameras are prepare to ship and the options to differents users. It´s so important to know the time will be happen between the order and shipped.

I thought Epic-M where machined and X where cast.
As the cast process was not ready they sold some Ms. I don't understand the relation with Japan and electronic parts? If they are able to put those parts in the Epic-M, why can't they put them in the Epic-X?

I'm probalby not aware of all hickup in the process...

Patrick

Waiting for Epic-X 336 stage 3 to shoot on.

PS: and Hollywood skipping the waiting line is a pain in the ass.

I don't see how Japan could delay things drastically. Factories are resuming business from what I read. It's only been 4 weeks ... (but what do I know)?

You've got to also remember that with the recent economic downturn all the supply chains for parts had dried up and were only being made to order.

Some plants are totally destroyed. Not sure you can resume work there very fast.

Any other Epic-X Stage 2 people thinking that if they want an Epic in 2011, the only way to get one is the Epic-M route?

It's even got the accessories needed to use it (SSDs, Bomb EVF) that are (or have been) is short supply. I'm seriously considering making the leap, and just immediately selling my Stage 2 Epic-X when it eventually ships to some poor Stage 4 soul.

Too rich for my blood...

.

I have 2x Stage II reservations. I also weighting options. Noone knows how many parts for Ms are available, how limited the supply is. One should have a plan B. For now I will wait until NAB is over and a clear statement is published.

Isn't the "recent economic downturn" about 3 years old now? And haven't the vast majority of parts been ordered some time ago? I'm just saying . . .

As I think about it a little more, I remember doing a fair of Coca-cola corporate video ages ago where they went on and on about the "supply chain." And they're dealing with sugar and aluminum. I think Red's a bit more on the cutting or bleeding edge of a much more arcane and complex supply chain.
