  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Dragon - Monstro

yeah the dragon is indeed an upgrade path for epic in 2012

Meaning 2014... ;-)

Are you sure is an upgrade and not a new Brain?

well "everything in life is subject to change,including their specs and delivery dates", so 2014 huh maybe, lets see...........

All I know is, a bunch of Red Team members had some ROCKIN Red Dragon t-shirts on at NAB. The dragon took up the entire back of the shirt. Red, please get those into the store!

Ha ha...can we have our Epics before we start dreaming of the next upgrade? This cracks me up. I mean, I'm all for moving forward and fast, but we're months away from the Epic, still!

Love the iPad control app...that looks killer. iPads sure are making their way into regular production scenarios now. We already have a Teradek joined with one...now another for camera controls...good stuff.

yes it is an upgrade so far, more will be revealed soon........

Yeap!! heard Ted..... No new brain... Dragon-Montro sensor upgrade.... Now we are talking about "Obsolescence Obsolete". Woow!

the "DRAGON" will breathe new fire into our lives,yeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!

Mysterium 2007 -> MysteriumX 2010
Epic-X 2011 -> Dragon 2014

Stop running after dreams like beheaded chicks...:nopity: ...perhaps NAB is about that... I must missing the point.

Now bring on those Epics and Scarlet. Thanks.

So? There is nothing coming out that beats it anyways...

Besides, the point of having a roadmap is being excited and seeing what is over the hill - so why shouldn't we show excitement over a new option, especially when EPIC is rolling out and getting all the thunder?

What's different about Monstro that we knew about last year, and Red Dragon that we heard about today. Both are just a name to which we have no details. I think it is a good idea to keep it close to their chest and then release the information just pre-release. But technically the only surprise is the name. Sensor upgrade is amazing but nothing new for RED. Its funny that something so unheard of like upgrading a sensor can be 'typical behaviour' for a company. I assumed that providing the camera has the ability to run the monstro in its fullest capacity it would be offered as a sensor upgrade, as with the MX.

Not deriding the announcement just playing devils advocate here.

The guess is that RED has made some kind of significant breakthrough or have got some very interesting ideas...pity we won't know what it is for another year. Forever the guessing game.

The 4K laser projector is very exciting news.

RED Dragon should be with more light sensitive capabilities and also much greater latitude than MX otherwise is making no sense...

After a credo that resolution matters RED told us for years the next step probably should be a credo that RED will say something like a latitude maters.

The point is that they're announcing Dragon as being available in 2012, not just saying "this is the tech we're working on." I can understand why people get frustrated when they're told one date and it keeps changing and changing. Epic is almost 3 years late, based on the first dates we were given. I'm not saying that the actual delay is unreasonable on RED's part - nobody else has a 5K 120p camera as far as I can tell. It's going to destroy the competition completely. But they need to stop giving dates out (in my opinion) when they've shown they can't meet any of them.

I can honestly say that with RED's transparency and following them through the ups and downs of the last few years I am at complete peace with it all. There is frustration but I don't think it can match the frustration that RED has felt over the past few years. Sure as hell I want a few cameras but to know what has been going on is the only reason a lot of people are still here. Most of the outlash seems to come from people who pop in from time to time and stir up the dust raising the general temperature. But people do say that if I was anymore laid back I would fall over. I think not detailing dates might be a good thing for outside of the community but I don't want RED to stop making announcements. I love to feel part of the process. I love to feel that in some small way we are having a say in what is happening with the future of the lines. I have never been someone who follows forums or have a hand in any kind of community. REDUSER/Scarletuser was my first and is the only one I visit apart from the odd jaunt to a Maya forum when I have an issue.
