The film director of 12 Angry Men, Dog Day Afternoon, The Icemen Cometh, Network and Serpico (to mention just a few) has died in New York at the grand age of 86. Lumet, you are the man, man.

So much respect for him as a director.

He died in the city he loved.

Sidney really was a special filmmaker.

I met Sidney a number of years ago. Great filmmaking mind. Sad to see him pass on. If you haven't done so already, pick up his book Making Movies. Great read.

12 Angry Men is an absolute favourite of mine, a superb movie in all respects.

An absolutely perfect film. Perfectly paced script, perfectly directed and perfectly played by all involved (Especially Lee J. Cobb). As well as a prime example how great single location films can be (similar to Dog day afternoon in that respect).

A titan of brilliant filmmaking. Huge admiration for him and loved the book Making Movies - I used to teach it at the university - one of the best books about, well, making movies ever.

Wow. He's definitely been an inspiration to me. The book is great and Dog Day Afternoon is certainly up there for me.
He did a good job.

One of the best and he was great at getting real performances from his actors.

Also, I want to plug one of his lesser known films, Running On Empty, which is one of my favs.
