hi guys,

i am editing my long feature. and ive had a wierd phenomenon the last days. the project is in 2k and we are editing with the 2k proxies (H)

SUDDENLY A CLIP APPEARS GEEN AND THE IT ALL STOPS WORKING

i am kindda tierd my workflow be interrupted and the loss of work do to this. what is it and why is it occurring so frequently now??

i have a macpro i7 with 16 gigs of ram, i dont think memory is the problems.

i have also seen a message in the screen out of memory, what does this mean? the scratch disk has 1.5 terabytes free.

PLEASE HELP! thank you

More Ram is needed would be my guess. Do you have your activity monitor turned on?

When a frame of a clip appears green it's usually a corrupt R3D file. It is likely that every time you come across a corrupt frame, whether you are editing or rendering out at the end, FCP will crash.

The best solution is to transcode to another format, and do not edit the proxy files. Editing with the proxy files is not a very common workflow these days. You can use REDCINE-X to transcode your R3Ds to ProRes Proxy files, using 1/4 or 1/8 debayer quality if you do not have a RED ROCKET card and need to transcode a lot of footage in a short amount of time. If any of your clips are indeed corrupt, the transcode of those clips will fail, but at least you'll have the start of the clip just fine, and all other clips will be fine, so you won't crash FCP.

When your edit is finished, you can use Clipfinder to switch back to the proxies and then send to Color if that is your desired workflow, or simply import the XML or EDL into REDCINE-X and do a high-quality render of your footage there.

I agree with Stephen, you will find the editing experience so much smoother if you transcode to QuickTime. Get a Red Rocket and do the whole thing fully debayered faster than realtime.

thank you!

thank you!

thank guys! i will see what i can do. but all that seem to be more logic.

the thing is i have all the audio in sync already and its probably about 4 terabytes of material :S .

is there a way to transcode and link them to my timeline with highres proxies. or would it be a manual process?

thanks again.

i am most sure i will transcode the next time. i did it with a videoclip i am editing and it gave me beautiful results, the thing is that not much material.

now is just a question of how to link those audios. thank you.

Right now your FCP edit will be using, for example, "A001_C001_1234AB_H.mov" and when you transcode the files, they'll be "A001_C001_1234AB.mov"
So, the easiest thing will probably be exporting an XML of your FCP edit, do a find and replace on the XML to change "_H.mov" to ".mov" then load it back into FCP. Everything should re-link perfectly and you're all set to go right where you left off.

Another option would be to create an XML in FCP, load it into RedcineX and correct the clips individually.

Depends on whether individual control is beneficial. You can copy and paste grades so pretty easy to do a bunch at the same time.

The main benefit is you can control it over time if it helps.
