Hello

I have a doubt about sound recording.

Can Epic-X/S/M record sound like others camcorders or required a external recorder ?
I see in the store cables with XLR but I don´t see mics, Has internal mic ?

Thank you

No internal microphones, but all include 2 channel balanced microphone audio inputs, recorded as 24-bit 48KHz uncompressed data in the .R3D file. Microphone inputs include 48V phantom power, and soft audio limiter.

Dear Stuart

Thank you for your reply.

Are any microphone with XLR inputs compatible ? Need a hot shoe or similar to plug on Epic body ?

Thanks

Does this mean the mini plugs can supply phantom power? Or do you mean the i/o module?

The mini plugs on the front of the body are just small TRS (tip Ring Sleeve) connectors that match up with an XLR cable. they are Balanced inputs just like XLR. They are NOT like the mini-jacks on camcorders.

That means you just need a small cable to go from XLR to mini TRS. You could use a box as well. Wooden camera is going to make a box just for doing that.

Looks like a great solution.

The A-Box is going to be a really handy accessory. I guess I never considered the possibility of a 3.5mm TRS plug being able to supply phantom power. That, too, will be very handy.

Dear Stuart
Where are the plugs to manage phantom power to mic ? I only see a two mini jack.

Thanks ;)

Please tell me the Pro IO module has XLR connectors on it ?

That post is from 2009, you can't possibly use that as a guide for anything current.

I am praying the Pro I/O module actually gets on the priority list someday soon.... And that it will include a 2nd LCD connector, it's really hard to step back from being able to use the EVF and and LCD simultaneously on the Red One for the last few years, to one or the other with the Epic...

anyone have thoughts on a very small mic just for reference audio. Could love something that was totally hidden inside the input... or something :)

George, Red support told me that, Yes the Pro I/O module will give us a second evf/lcd connector. Unfortunately there is no precise shipping date of the Pro I/O module yet, but it should be early 2012 (if that means something).
I guess it is a bit like with the RedOne, in the begining we didn't have an evf, just the connector; now we have the evf, but no connector .... at least, if you have the Redmote, you have the choice of using the evf or the lcd.
