  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FS: RED PRO 18-85mm T2.9 (Imperial) lens (New cut down price!!!)

Thanks a lot for all your guy's kindest word, I really feel this like a big family...
Great ideal for us to take care by each other, and this properly the first time I made the deal with one I don't know much longer time,
and also this lens I's help my friend to buy, cause i already order mine one through Red Store,
the payment was transfer to the Bank Account under his name, not through West Union, cause I don't trust West Union at all,
I will try to contact the bank for more info on this case...

Once again appreciate for your guys warmly hand...

Cheers & have a nice day

I looked back through my old emails and found my correspondence with "Junior". The guy he claimed bought the 300 from his was Carl Burke. I contacted Burke by private message on reduser. Here was his reply:

Hey Kyle,

I bought a 300mm red prime from him last week and it all went fine. I met him in central london and paid him cash though, so I understand your caution for a wire transfrer. He seemed geniune though. Hope that helps!

Good luck with your purchase.

Regards,
Carl

This gets stranger.

Carl is on here. Definately. He's a friend of mine. But its Carl Burke with an E...

Oh dear. On top of this, why would a "Londoner" have an imperial marked lens?
pounds, shillings, pence, inches, feet, yards .... they "invented", the imperial system. Or rather stood by and watched the "system" evolve.

Yeah, carl does exist, I can phone him and see if hes got any more details for this guy if that helps?

Sorry to hear about tall this. Have to admit, I was fighting the urge to buy that "lens".

it seemed too good to be true!

Guys,

I also contacted this guy early about this lens and was willing to buy it. I was in London shooting and had some meetings also. He said it was in a pawn shop, or whatever the equivalent is today, cash converters etc and he needed to get money to get it out. I was going to meet with him and do the whole cash thing but was kinda out of time and in a rush.

All in all, it seemed just a bit wrong and I didn't need the hassle at the time. I meant to follow it up and see if I could purchase the lens as that is a great price, but I'm always really busy and this is the first time I've been on Reduser since. I would say I think you are totally trusting sending money without security, I wouldn't have done this without a cash agreement in a public place. The guy, Junior, seemed very real and honest though, I can't see why he would agree to meet to do the transaction if he was not genuine.

Maybe the temptation of the transfered money was too much given that he is resorting to pawn shops.

Guys,

I've also got the full transcript from my PM Inbox detailing the conversation and a phone number. Please only ask for this if you are directly affected by this matter or need it for legal purposes, here is some of the conversation which details an outline of the deal.

He replies...

Thanks for your instant reply.

The lens is on loan basically, so when I get the right amount for the lens, I can buy it back basically, but its still my property. I don't mind selling it for your asking price. But before getting it back, I have to pay the price that I but it on loan for.

If you would like to bank transfer it in the morning or even come to where I put it on loan for, I don't mind at all. Its all based on trust and so on.

Please get back to me, Thanks

Hi All,

I had a very similar pm exchange with 'Junior' when I saw his advert:

Do let me know if it's still for sale.

He replies:
Hi Paul, yes, I still have the lens, but at this present time, its in a pawn shop on loan. so i have 2 pay the loan amount to get it out, but its still my property.

I then walked away because it all sounded a bit too fishy.
"If something sounds too good be be true... it usually is!"

I do hope you manage to get something back Perry - this leaves a nasty taste for everyone.

Hi Perry, any luck on chasing this guy.
Hoping for the best,

maybe you guys can post something on here about safe transaction practices. for example dont send money to guys who have really no history with reduser, dont use western union, to name a few.
Thanks for the idea. I wrote a couple of points in the Marketplace policy sticky. Let me know if you have any further suggestions.

I have a real RPZ 18-85 (I) for sale in perfect condition that I've never taken out of the box except for Matthew Duclos to evaluate and give his stamp of perfection.

$7,500 firm.
