  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A short entirely with the Red 300mm

Hey guys, I haven't posted in a while, but here is a little 5 min short I did shot on my Red MX entirely on the Red 300mm (yep, every last shot).
I just took first place with it in the DVXUser competition FictionFest. (Side note, I encourage Redusers to migrate back there for the fests!)

I'm only going to leave it up for a few days more, then I'll have it taken down so I can do a festival run with it

I fell for it! I was very much moved, but I am a soft hearted guy ;-)

And it wasn´t the 300mm or the R1 that moved me, but the fact that this was a beautiful short film!

And by the way, cool to see such a wonderful little film shot only with a 300mm!
 
Really nicely done and emotionally moving. Most impressive to me was the overall economy and simplicity - not a wasted word or camera move. That accentuated the purity of emotion - like haiku. The only thing that broke the spell for me was the way the female of the couple on the bench looked at the male when she asked how long the boy is going to continue. Kind of removed focus from the emotional situation of the boy. Anyway - that's a minor point from the peanut gallery. Great job and kudos to DVXuser for recognizing the subtle art of your piece. Thanks - I learned a lot in 4 minutes.

Ah, thanks man! That 300mm really surprised me. Funny is that I own the RPPs and so rarely even use my 100mm. So it was great fun to really push myself.

I'm sure proud of the guy :-). He is my younger brother, 18 years between us! He's taken acting classes and is pushing hard. Ironically, he's the least credited of my acting siblings, as the others are off in LA or Seattle doing acting gigs and Josiah was the only one left for me to work with, and he hits it out of the fucking park!

Good question. Perhaps a bug? I'll mention it to Jason...


Edit> looks like a definite bug. It seems that the RED TEAM button script is also including us moderators, the button takes me to my post. Doing the same in another thread I just tried.

Thanks man! I appreciate that! And yes, limits can be very creative. I own 9 PL lenses (full RPP set + 14mm, 8mm, and more) and yet restricting myself to just one lens for a scene indeed brought me to some cool stuff
 
This is a very touching short, I loved it!
I like projects were you impose limits on yourself. Here you had one lens. It was beautiful!

I recently did a corporate docu project where I had no lights. All available light. In Chicago, indoors during a storm you really want to finish before dusk...
Went on to Miami and San Diego, and it all work well and looked organic.

Less is more sometimes.
