  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Test Footage from Red Epic: "Ride of the Valkyries"

What an amazing video! Congrats, Tom. Love it when the bird shakes in slo-mo.

And it's synced with the music! :thumbup1:
I played this with a PS3 into a JVC RS20. Looks great, but there are bit rate peaks above 100 Mbit/s (!) and even the PS3 gets jerky at times.

Awesome stuff. Only able to see the Vimeo stream, download limit reached for 1080p original.

I'll keep an eagle eye on that download link.

I'm going to be working on a 2560 x 1440 download version of this video today, then hopefully a 4K version, if I can figure it out technically.

Does anyone know where I could host a huge 4K file? It's like 4.9 gigis. My host seems to be limited to 20kb upload through FTP. :(

Also, Ted, quick question: when people give you 4K files to play at Red Studios, in which format do they normally hand over the files? ProRes is not an option for me, since I'm on PC.

Hi Tom,

When people provide footage for us to use at RED studios to demo 4k (and now 5k) via the RED rocket, and get into our demo reels - they just send us the R3D files, yes - sometimes they send a graded prores version as well, so we can match their desired look when we master it in 4k.

+ Ted

Very, very nice. It's such a shame that H.264 compression does that to such wonderful images..

I feel kinda stupid for not seeing this artifact. I'm on a macbook pro and not a larger screen so maybe thats why, but any of you care to highlight what exactly I am looking for? I know its on on the camera but I'd like to better learn to see certain things like artifacting better.
