EPIC + GPS?? (Lost/Theft Situation)

I'm a fan of upcoming EPIC. But it seems to cost 30k (approx), which is the same as buying a new car. But where is the security? EPIC is simple to hold and also simple to lose or simple for theft.

If there is a feature like inbuilt GPS that will help find the lost/theft GPS easily. I'm not sure if insurance will cover it in case of loss or theft. Even a device like ipad comes with a "find my Ipad" feature which gives some clue of retrieving it.

Jim and other folks, whats the solution for lost/theft situation?

Personally, I think finding a good firm answer to this question will be far more useful to you than GPS co-ordinates from a stolen camera.

I would also like to see something along these lines but there is a problem.

The iPad has an Internet connection on 3G or WiFi so it can report its location when requested to Apple's severs. RED haven't revealed any Internet connectivity functionality for EPIC so how would the camera report its location back to you?

Exactly thats my point. I would like to see WiFi/3G in EPIC. If you lose the camera, you lose 30k instantly, but in case of a car you can at least seek the help of police.

A GPS accessory that fits into EPIC could be helpful. Imagine, an e-reader as simple as Kindle which costs $380, has a WiFi/3G connection.
Its good if EPIC has WiFi or 3G connection. May be not for web browsing, but for software/firmware updates or features like GPS.


We can argue that other high end cameras doesn't have GPS/wifi/3G features. But my expectations on EPIC are different. Since this is a big investment on my part as independent filmmaker. I see it as a game changer. But the concern is about its security. As a independent filmmaker I cannot hire a person to go along with the camera like those rental companies.

Note: There was already an incident in news that an EPIC was stolen and the owner announced a 100k bounty on it.

Doesn't it have an ethernet port for straight to the cam firmware updates? not saying it will always be tethered to ethernet but just a thought

It is an issue especially if one was in tourist mode and shooting
stills/vids with small lenses. Also the box shape
of the cameras sets them apart and could be eyecatching
to potential thieves. Very easy for someone to rip it out of your
hands and run for it while you are distracted shooting something.

This actually happened to a TMZ shooter outside court in downtown L.A.
and the video may look fake..but it was actually confirmed to be true by
someone here who worked in post for TMZ at the time.
