  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The new Macbook Pros are out!

4 ram slots, dual drives, eSata and USB3, 1.5gb Nvidia card, 1920x1080 matte display and 16gb ram for $1,500 I really genuinely don't understand the new Macbook Pro hoopla. I prefer OSX too, but I really don't get it? What am I missing?

Personally I have just found that they have longer life than other computers I've owned... Right now I'm using a five year old Macbook, and it feels faster now than when I got it (unlike what Windows seems to do, newer Mac OS releases seem to make things faster). Never had any hardware problems either - the only thing I've done to it was spend $40 on increasing the RAM a bit.

I think that these new Macbooks are particularly exciting since Thunderbolt is possibly the biggest advance in expandability that has happened in the last decade (at least)... That, and the Aluminium case on those things makes it look awesome.

You can generally swap cards between computers with a bit of finesse but the parts themselves have to be obtained through third-parties (or authorized service providers) and they are not easy to install. There is a whole "upgrade scene" that revolves around swapping out cards whenever there is an upgrade available from the third-party black market though some custom builders will upgrade you to whatever they have in stock that is better than what you have if you call them and ask, so long as it is compatible with whatever revision your board uses.

Interesting...its good to know that the possibility is out there.

Doesn't sound like something I'd want to use in an extremely professional capacity, though. Last I heard support and warranties are hard to come by from "third-party black market" folks.

I love reading through these threads wondering if many of the people posting actually use a computer day to day? Still comparing MBPs to generic PC laptops with desktop processors? You are completely missing the point...

Same as the Sager. User replaceable card mentioned in the specs. Yea they can be hard to find, but gamer dorks do it all the time.

All AVCHD lately and I don't think the new MBP could keep up. Even the Elitebooks and the Thinkpads slaughter the new Macbooks.

Order one and see how it works out for you.

Every single person that visits this site should be crapping their pants over Thunderbolt and the possibilities that open up because of it.

So when TB becomes available for PC use are we likely gonna have to get a new motherboard or do you reckon we could get an adapter card to slot in? This obviously would depend on the level of the motherboard. I have a pretty nice and uptodate motherboard with USB3 ports and external esata.

EDIT: Answered my own question with a search. There is a little confusion but it appears, as it stands a new motherboard will be needed but some manufacturers could do something but additional architecture will have to be built for it.
