I may not be able to afford neither a RED One or a Mac... but I can proselytize! :smile5:

Nice!

The only good bug is a dead bug.

-Thread title reminded me of one thing, and one thing only...Rico's Roughnecks!

Its not like I work at Best Buy... I've been debating getting a MBP for my student computer, and the big iMac was just too much to resist playing on. Talked to a couple sales associates about RED, too...

Haha, I remember downloading the first version of RedCine-X on an iMac at Meyer (which is a big department store in Australia) to play with it because it was so much bigger than my laptop's screen!

why not do that? guerrilla style at best buy. i like it.

Because legally its both vandalism and unauthorized access of a computer.

Plus, the Best Buy employees might get in trouble, they are supposed to keep the computers "clean." Same for the Apple Store employees.

The flip side of all that is that the application makes the computer look cool, and frankly if I were Apple I'd include RedCineX in my demo software package with some footage and a demo of its integration with Final Cut, Motion and Color (or even iMovie!)

Of course that would be for demo systems that include those "advanced" applications- which I don't believe the Best Buy displays do. A lot of consumers look at that sort of thing and think, "I don't need anything that powerful! I can save money here."

Finally however- it makes RED users look like a bunch of fanboys. We often are, but its because the camera and company deserve fans. Despite that we should act like professionals.

I'm in complete agreement with Alexander here. Stick to the old adage: don't mess with things that aren't yours.

maybe i'm gonna buy a new machine from best buy and i want to see how it performs.

or maybe, they should just block downloads if they are really worried about their customers being arrested for illegal activities in the store.

different people have different ways of viewing the world, and everything in it. some would look at that kind of thing as some kind of artistic expression. others would see it as a crime. others wouldn't care if it is technically 'unauthorized' or not.

generally, i'm not going to discourage any way of thinking, because thinking is generally good.

professionalism and seriousness are not intrinsically related.

personally, i've found a light and positive atmosphere on-set or in a post-production environment (or, in life) makes room for creativity to flourish and duties to be performed better. oh, and really good food helps, too.

and don't forget the snacks. i like crackers and those little gummies that look like the dinosaurs.

I think it's no harm, no foul in this case - Apple reimages the machines daily so they stay fresh. So any additional software isn't going to be on long and is harmless.
