Sony’s New OLEDs Really Do Outshine CRT

ALTHOUGH this stood out, at least to me:

Obviously, Sony had control of the demo material, which was played back from HDCAM SR tape at a 24p frame rate that did the CRT no favors (it induced quite a bit of flickering in some shots), and pro users will be ready to throw a ton of real-world footage at it the day it ships. But the images I saw today — nighttime cityscapes, daylight helicopter shots, test charts — made a compelling case for this gorgeous monitor. I want a 47-inch model for my living room, of course, but even if I could afford such a thing, Sony officials assured me that a larger version of the product will not be made in the foreseeable future, mainly because the start-up costs of a plant to make such a panel would be prohibitive.

Would love to see some group come along and prove Sony wrong in the next 2 years.

yep the baby is gonna be awesome and expensive. they need to come out with a 3d model. and for all the money you're paying, i bet they are still gonna make you buy the SDI board separate like they always do. I've always really hated that.

The spec list I saw has 1.5G SDI input included; you can still add a 3G SDI input board if you need that.

ha, so they finally include one for a change. but now i can complain about them not throwing int he 3g board when you're already spending 28k

can't wait till they put this side by side to a cinetal though

i saw the TVlogic OLED 17" and is the only CRT replacement i ever seen ..
True details on Black and True 180degree viewing angle ...


Oled is way superior than LCD...

Reminds me NAB a few ears ago, when Sony presented their first 19" LCD pro panels for CRT "replacement" monitors. Same controlled darkened room with LCD and CRT playing the same material side by side. They were so sure, that it would fly at the time Well, now 15 years later they back at it again. No doubt, OLED is very promising technology and it's had been promising for the last 5 years, at least. As they said themselves, anything larger, than 20" is quite a few years out.

Michael, of course they will feed you that line. It gives them lots of wiggle room and persuades you to buy into the first generation BVM-E line. There will definitely be larger panels, mostly likely within 5 years.
