  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

audio_fault / codec_fault / internal_fault

Hey Dylan,
I started using 30.6.12 works fine at this moment, but previous one I used 30.6.0 worked fine on our projects.

Enjoy Vancouver :)

I have had the audio codec error intermittently for the last year. When it does happen it's usually only Once or twice in a day usually right at the beginning of the shot so not a disaster. I will try and download the log from the camera but what is the procedure for doing so? I have multiple drive cables so I will label them and see if I can isolate a culprit.

I don't think that audio_fault specifically has to do with SATA problems (drives and cables).

Right now we suspect that we keep getting audio_fault because of the timecode-in/jam from the TC-gen or sound recorder that feeds TC to the camera. Thinking back, it did start after we began the TV show that required TC synch between picture & sound and we started to feed TC from the sound recorder (Aaton first, then Sound Devices, now Edirol)...

Yesterday we had 5 or 6 error messages with full or partial freeze-up of the camera. One was audio_fault for sure, the others the CamOp did not see as he was using LCD in full screen mode. But then again, yesterday we tried synching using an external TC-gen, because we kept getting a TC dis-synchronization using Edirol's TC (even though we had a TC wire 100% of the time). But that's a whole different thread :) Anyway, so yesterday we had a record number of errors, so we came to a conclusion that it MUST be the sound recorder/TC-gen affecting the camera.

I emailed 4 reports to Stuart, so let's hope he will be able to shed some light.

Now that's interesting.

We too use AATON GMT's to jam sync the cameras TC to TOD code. I hadn't heard of external TC causing this kind of fault. What's the history of that ?

I will add, that my 2nd unit crew have ALSO had these faults.

They have 2 MX bodies as well.

So now I have 5 bodies, shooting on drives and CF cards all reporting the
same codec error. They are all using GMT's to jam sync TC as well.

I'm starting to think about rolling back to 30.5

Well, maybe it isn't the TC affecting the camera causing it to freeze up. What we did yesterday was: power cycle, TC synch-up, disconnect TC cable, shoot until next reboot. Even after synching TC once after reboot we got 2 audio_fault errors so I now think that the problem lies elsewhere... keep emailing Stuart the log files and hope he figures it out.
