  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet - base sensitivity

You're asking the wrong guy Peter! I can remember some physical specs, but image processing is more my thing.

I see. What kind of polas are you using? Thanks!

I don't have the camera with me right now, but i recall they were HOYA brand - to be honest, i didn't do any research or testing before buying, i simply bought the only correct size linear polas the local camera store had on the shelf at the time... and got lucky i guess. I recall they cost around 100 euros (130 or so bucks), so i guess they're decent quality for consumer grade screw on filters, not the cheapest ones out there.

PS: I did a test just after buying them, it's still online - as you can see, coloration isn't a big problem, even when fully fading out with the filters:

...in this one, i had an UV filter stacked in addition to the polas, the stack was a bit too long, and one can see the filters darkening the corners when fully zoomed out. Without the UV, not anymore.

Is the Scarlet's sensor an MX? Doesn't it have smaller pixels than the sensor in the R1 and Epic? Wouldn't that mean lower sensitivity?

Yes, I believe it was referred to as a Mysterium-X sensor, at least in some earlier references. And the photosite size was 3.3 microns (?) vs. the the 5.4 of the Epic and RED ONE. Not sure about the sensitivity issue as I think that "depends" on a few issues and I am definitely not an expert.
