  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Bringing our Fellow REDUSER an EPIC M8 Series of Collaborative Opportunities!!!

Hey guys,

while we await for other cameras and gear, to start some Major 3D Productions in Italy,
and even so we already have several Collaborative Shoots already lined up, we like to Shoot EPIC M8 as much as
possible till it is time to leave for Italy, and provide both RED and this Community with as much Footage and variation
of Tests in the field as possible, for this we have decided to offer a very UNIQUE Opportunity to the Community!!

We do not have specific dates for this, but if interested contact us, so that we can put you on our Schedule,
and as soon as we are ready to do this we will fire it up ;)

If not interested in a Collaborative shoot, we will only do for Hire Work were either Me or Steve Gibby goes with the camera and gear + One!

RED EPIC M8 is NOT for rental!!

This is how it works:

A) We bring on set EPIC M8 with MP's, Focus Marking Added RPP's, RPZ's, Gearnex Kit etc.

B) You set up a Shoot providing with Professional Personnel.

C) We choose the Shoots to do, based on Type of Shoots as well as People involved and Location.

D) I Direct and Co-Produce Each Shoot.

E) On any Shoots outside of California You will be responsible for Round Trip Tickets for 2 + Accommodations.

F) A strict NDA will be enforced with the Small Crews participating on this Shoots.

G) All shoots are to be documented with BTS Videos and Pics to be shared with this Community as we have been doing and continue to do.

I think so as well. It's great to see Epic going through so much rigorous testing between all the teams that are currently shooting with them (Spidey, Off Hollywood, you two, Dino, etc). I'm sure it's great for Red to work out last minute bugs and tweaks before going full production too. Although it sounds like it's been pretty rock solid so far :)

This is a fantastic opportunity. At first I thought it was a rental offering, but upon realizing what Ketch is saying, this is amazingly generous!

yeah NO RENTAL, neither STeve Gibby or I or our Studios, will ever DO Rentals, we are for Hire, but not Dry Rentals, this
offering is because we want to share this Tremendous Privilege that RED has given us, with the Community that we Love
and Care for, and for a common goal, that of providing RED and ourselves with as much variations of Shots and footage
to test this FANTASTIC piece of Technology that is RED EPIC M8 ;)

very cool, Ketch - when do you leave for Italy - in other words, what kind of time frames/availability for this offer do you perceive? do you have an idea?

let me toss out one more scenario - would you be willing to join up for a 3D shoot with another early EPIC (not as early as yours, obviously, but earlier than most)....

that we have 3 ET Atom rigs coming ;)

Interesting! So I'm a little confused. You're offering this for free if we just pay airfare, food and lodging or it's those things on top of some rental fee for camera, lenses, personell etc?

D) Seems odd that you'd be director. Usually such ambitious shoots have a director. Or is that the main "price" to pay to get you and the cam out? :-). I could see that. I once offered my camera for free to a production as long as i got to be director, they were insulted I offered lol.

F) Why is an NDA necessary if it's our shoot? Why wouldnt the crew have the priviledge of talking about it? Wouldn't that be the point to be able to talk about the experience? To me this bullet point could sort of nullify the entire point of such an experience. Does this NDA give you the ability to deep six any or all of the footage?
 
I naturally am way happy to offer this collaborative opportunity to others who are interested, and then who we select for it. Its another way for us to give back to the Red community...

As for time frame, it may be a while before we get it in motion, because as you might guess we are swamped with getting our own shooting tests with the camera done first. But we'll keep everyone here posted on a time frame for availability as things progress.

NO Rental Fees as the camera and or Gear is not for rent, this is a Collaborative offering, so Airfare and Lodging for out of
State projects is all that we ask, even so it can be Hired, at which point only the NDA Rule applies.

Yeah, if they get insulted, is their Problem, this is a very generous offer that Steve and I are putting on the table for
the Community, so they need to understand the rules, or just Hire us ;)

The NDA is always in place for any Such a Pre-Production Camera and Pre-Release Softwares as well as other Gear that we
might bring on Set from other Manufacturers. Once footage is done it is shared with the collaborators.

Its simply a chance for others we select to get some hands-on experience with the camera. We're not offering this so that others can shoot their regular productions - but rather so others can get together with me or Ketch and shoot with us in collaboration. If Ketch isn't available to direct, then I will be. I have deep experience as a producer, director, DP, and cinematographer - for decades before I adopted Red, and certainly ever since.

Why is a NDA necessary - and the other questions you asked about NDA? You'll remember when I co-produced the L.A. Red Test event, where my selected team did field shooting with multiple Red cameras - each one of those guys signed an NDA and I made sure they honored it. That worked out well. Again, its our equipment and we're going to sometime in the future offer this collaboration opportunity - but it will be to help people learn about the camera, and to provide a good networking opportunity - not a situation where they're testing out our equipment, and then having freedom to post up whatever they want. That opens the door for things to be taken out of context, misconceptions created by posting info that is often just operator errors, etc. M8 is a alpha camera, and we're approaching it as such - and if someone has a problem signing an NDA to get the chance to work with our camera and us - well then they won't be given the opportunity.

We're happy to provide this opportunity to others - but its our equipment and that access will be on our terms. I'm sure you can understand that...
 
I was fairly sure this is what Steve and Ketch were offering, so the terms and conditions are sensible. I appreciate the further clarification on this highly generous offer.

The deal is fair and excellent. If I was in the states, or had time and money available to make you a meaningfull trip to Norway, I'd have jumped in.

I think maybe it could be an idea to reread the wording of the initial post, though - to make it even clearer what kind of very generous offer this really is. I also managed to misread it a bit at first.

Thanks guys...we'll be really happy to offer this. Networking and alliances are the core of any business - and especially in this industry. Some of my very closest associates now are those who I've interacted with at seminars, expos, and events I've produced. Like Ketch, I'm always looking for opportunities to network, form alliances, and collaborate. That cross-pollination of experience and ideas really strengthens everyone's craft. IMO what we're offering is a win/win situation for everyone - the best kind of scenario for all.

it is also to be very clear, that once we do select those that will be eligible to do such collaborative shoots, when we get ready to do it,
it will be decided not only on what type of shoots and or were, but most importantly who the participants are, and if we fill that for
any reason we can not control the environment for the safety of our Gear and our selves, this will not happen, I'm sure you understand
this as well given past experiences by what happened to #6.

Further more, we are not interested in the Collaboration of LOW Budget Shoots, this need to have a High production value,
or wil be very little use to any one.

Obviously, Ketch can answer for himself, but I took it to mean that the crew would be restricted in talking about the Epic and it's features, performance, technical aspects, etc, - not about the subject matter of the shoot. Ketch did say they would do BTS and control the release of that info themselves; again, that's they way I understood it. To me, at this stage of early release and development, without all features enabled, maybe RED (and Ketch et al) would just rather avoid "loose lips." :coolgleamA:

What the NDA is for is simple, as Terry said,

this opportunity offered to the selected few of the Pro's of this Community that have the capability and connection to make
something like this happen, will be under NDA, for al the above and more, as we also have NDA's for other products in
preproduction, and we are obligated to insure that those working with us on any collaboration and or on a Job for hire for
that matter, understand this, or they can just simply wait till Epic-X comes out and hire one of the Production cameras ;)

We have already 7, going 8 prescheduled Collaborative Productions, and the reason for this offer, is simply to keep the
camera working as we have decided not to Rent out the gear, and also want to gain as much experience shooting Epic
before starting the first Major 3D production in Italy ;)

All current Shoots scheduled, have understood this, and some of them are simply to Blow your Mind,
when you see them, and what kind of High Production they are.

Again NDA, is simply there to protect, and control information released and how it is released, not to burry
Footage and or the Shoot or how it is done, all info and footage will be released, but obviously if lets say the DIT, has
completely screw up the camera settings, or the DP has totally applied the wrong lighting for a given set up, and the
Cinematographer and or the Director, have not seen were this errors were occurring while shooting,
(most likely because they were too busy looking at the Girls :devil:) we would surely not have the footage
been released by some one saying that Epic has issues.
