Looks interesting. I've a few questions that the site doesn't answer:

- Do both trays rotate?
- Does it come with eye brow?
- Can side brows be added?
- Can the trays take 4x4 as well (combi)
- Widest Angle?
- Weight?

Looks like a good deal but Red seems to be scant on info.
Has anyone here have hands on experience?

Most of your questions have already been answered.

- No rotatable stages (will come as add-on stages later)
- Top flag optional.
- Side Flags + Side Frame optional.
- Works with at least RPP 18mm
- Weight: 646 grams (2-stage)

Basic specs here:

$1200.

Carbon Fiber Hood. Aluminum Frame. Incredibly Light.

Clip On. 110mm, 114mm, and 142mm rings included.

2 stage linear 4x5.6 Trays included.

Top flag optional.

Side Flags + Side Frame optional.

Bad Ass.

lack of rotating stages confirmed here:

[...]There will be a " full package " available in a few weeks that includes and comes assembled with the top, bottom and side flags and full frame.

No rotating stages.

Cant remember what version was at RED DAY 2010.. but its pretty similar.

Fits our 5k lenses no problem no vignette.

on modularity:

This Mattebox is modular.. like almost everything else we make. There will be add on stages.. rotating stages.. all sorts of things are in the pipe. But next week, what you see here is what you get. :)

Found it. Scary fanboy orgy going there. Party line in full effect. The "I hereby decree non-rotating stages and like it" attitude reminded me of when I tried to blog in China. Anyway, I'll wait until they have rotating stages, I'm sure it'll be super then and I'll be sure to say nice things.

Thanks for the leads.

I must be an idiot. I went to the Red Camera site. And this is all I found: http://www.red.com/store/accessories/product/red-pro-mattebox

Must I scour through Reduser to find hearsay or do you have a link to an official announcement by Red? If you got it, please post the link.

Details are in the Mattebox thread.

And btw. - I agree. It's sad that people have to scour RedUser to find details in numerous threads. I'm hope the guys at RED will be better at it in the future. They should just set up an RSS feed on RED.com with news and product updates so we could subscribe; and maybe add a Twitter account (There's one called @Epic5K but not sure that is an official one).

It would make sense. I just find the tone of that thread somewhat self serving and anti progress as well as PIA if you're just trying get to the specs. After much trial and error, I've settled for an MB 20 but still feel the need of a quick and dirty clip on with rotating stages. Recommendations appreciated. Important specs: 2-3 stages, at least 1 rotating, light, accommodates all primes and smalll optimos.
