I'm on the verge of ordering a Red Rocket, but I was wondering if there were any plans on making a new version designed for Epic's 5K format ?

I guess I won't get an answer from Red on this, but I thought I still should ask...

I would hate to order one, just to find out a couple of months later that it's being replaced by a new version...

Speculation...

Im thinking itll be a driver/firmware upgrade. Just my thoughts of course ;)

possibly will need a second card to get realtime performance. This is essential for me too, that I can see the footage in realtime on set of the backuped data. Using dual-link hdsdi 10bit 4:4:4 rgb to my monitor at least up to 25fps.
deanan could you give us an update on this please ?

Half res sounds worse than it practically is - in reality, half res even at 4K now is perfectly fine, given that the display is not going to be 4 or 5K, for most of us using larger LCD displays for monitoring.

I use my rocket at 1/2 res now, displaying on an Apple 23" cinema, and on a calibrated Plasma (1920) - full res won't play in real time, but even if it did, its not particularly useful for me.

I could see larger post stages with 4K projection wanting true 4K/5K playback, and for them, the data we have suggests they already are or will need to use 2 cards.

It's not just about resolution. Getting full rez playback influences the noise level in the blacks. I don't think Red is about to release a new Red Rocket, more like releasing tons of firmware upgrades to support multiple Red Rockets in the same system, which you will most likely need for an Epic realtime playback.

Buy a HD-SDI to DVI converter or to HDMI and go in realtime playback on your monitor.... then you see the truth....
