  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB '11 "Surprise" Guessing Game

A 3D camera that doesn't require a rig to cobble together.

This is my guess as well.

WHY: 3D is obviously prominent right now, and although the Epic/Scarlet would be great for 3D, a single "Epic 3D" camera would be even better.

Not directly...though your post about Jim being my uncle cracked me up. I'd rather him be my uncle so I could just be around him as he does business much more so than his money. Haha. Wisdom is more valuable than money. ;)

(I will be deleting this here in a few minutes to keep the place clean...)

You should have let me know... I agree the wisdom is far more valuable...

:)

(HDR) HDRx™ mode... 36stops of DR

How about 65 stops?

120 fps/24=5 e-shutter passes.

5 times 13 stops...

65 stops lol.

max possible must surely be about 23.
assuming 1/25000 max shutter speed.
13 stops plus max shutter speed pass?

More wish than expectation:
RED APPLE collaboration, new joint venture, or takeover: FCSIII 64 bit

Slightly more realistic:
RED APPLE Redmote: Signal converter with large focus pulling knob attached, made to stick onto iPAD screen. Rest of controls via touchscreen interface. Future upgrades to allow wireless monitoring with proper RED module (AVCHD or Pro Res).

Maybe even more realistic:
RED APPLE ProRes module: Jim said there is one third-party module under development with unnamed functions, and earlier indicated a ProRes module would not be a priority for RED, but there seems to be a demand.

Most realistic:
First Epics and/or Scarlets produced from the assembly line. (Though I'd be surprised if this was THE surprise).

The Red electronic zooms?
5k coverage, T2.4, equal contrast and resolving power to RPPs; but in a compact body, yet with flawless mechanical action and game-changing motor control for wireless jaw-dropping capabilities.

I'm guessing a partnership with some gizmo manufacturer to build REDRay into a consumer device to go with a relatively inexpensive 4K viewing device from a major display manufacturer.

Why? Because that is all that is needed to solve the 4K delivery problem... Well, that and 15MB/s sustained internet speeds to the home...

I'm guessing a RED distribution service to go along with RED RAY 4K and RED RAY 3D 2K. This service will be Internet Based (or SSD) and have RED Protect, a DRM system the studios will need to get on board.

The first film will be the Hobbit. (either 1 or 2)

I would love it if RED bought FCP from apple and gave it the love it deserves but doesn't get from Apple.

Red cut pro replaces FCP with a special upload button that directly distributes your film into iTunes for immediate sale.

8 megapixel QuadHD 3840x2160 resolution super 16 Scarlet Cinema.
3k fixed Scarlet Jr. for $3k. 60fps max, no HDRx™, plastic body and lens, shoots highest redcode compression only to work with commercial CF cards. Not modular or upgradable.
Microwave popcorn pouch holder, fits over the cooling exhaust vent.

How about combining both models for $3K? Then Jim could charge $6K for the popcorn add-on.

Indeed Jeff I'm with you on this one!

RED is not just a camera company... I repeat RED is not just a camera company!!!!

Recode in distribution.

A team up with one or several major studios for VOD streamed / downloadable to Red Ray (Consumer version) (or possibly via Apple TV) synchronised with the release of 4K monitoring systems.

For those that forget the "Cinema" in this Camera companies name.....

Probably Epic FF35 or 4K monitor?

In my opinion, the FF35 Epic will become the main IMAX digital camera once it hits the streets. 4K RGB 3:2 finish for IMAX.

I think an affordable 4k projector would be the best surprise, but I'm not sure Red really wants to get into a Christie/Sony competition

I think an update on the monstro sensor, specs and demos for scarlet/epic for those attending, and an update on red ray
