For Sale a set of the famous Cooke Speed Panchro Series II and Series III prime lenses, used by the likes of Kubrick, Cassavetes and many others. All these lenses are in original ARRI Standard mount and the set comes with the Les Bosher "ARRI Standard (Cooke) to PL mount adapter" so the lenses can be used on cameras with ARRI Standard Mount, ARRI Bayonet Mount and ARRI PL Mount. I've used these lenses with an Arriflex 35 IIC, and with the PL mount adapter, a Hot Rod PL Deluxe, and the Panasonic GH-1. A friend has used them with the PL mount adapter on a RED ONE camera. They make beautiful images.

All five of these lenses received a CLA from Guy Genin at ZGC and are ready to go.

The set includes:
The Cooke Speed Panchro Series III 18mm lens (serial number 688XXX)
The Cooke Speed Panchro Series III 25mm lens (serial number 740XXX)
The Cooke Speed Panchro Series II 32mm lens (serial number 629XXX)
The Cooke Speed Panchro Series II 50mm lens (serial number 687XXX)
The Cooke Speed Panchro Series II 75mm lens (serial number 753XXX)
The Les Bosher ARRI Standard (Cooke) to PL mount adapter.

This set will go up on the evil auction site Sunday night, January 30th. If anyone from reduser.net would be interested in purchasing them before they go on auction, please contact me.

Best,
-Tim

Cooke Speed Panchros are 35mm lenses

Cooke Kinetel lenses are 16mm

Thanks Kip,

Yes, they are classic 35mm motion picture camera lenses, the same lenses used by Kubrick, Cassavetes, Leone, and others. They give a beautiful classic film look.

And they go up on eBay tomorrow night if they haven't sold before then.

Best,
-Tim

Hi Paul,

Hunter Richards shot with these lenses and the Les Bosher adapter on a RED One last summer and was really happy with the results. He was supposed to send me clips, but somehow that never ended up happening.

Here's a short test clip I shot with the lenses on a film camera:

Cooke Speed Panchro Test

I have also used them with the Panasonic M4/3 cameras (GH1, GH2, soon to be available AF100) and they create that beautiful shallow depth of field as in this clip:

GH-1 clip

Rough asking price, $3500.

Best,
-Tim

Hi Clint,

Unfortunately I don't know that. I am not a RED One shooter. As I mentioned, Hunter Richards has used this set with the RED One, but I don't know the settings. I also have heard for the last few years that all these classic 35mm motion picture camera lenses can porthole at the wider end (with these that would be the 18mm and 25mm) with full frame digital sensors.

Best,
-Tim

I can only speak from experience shooting with a set of re-mounted (PL) speed Panchros. With that set, the 18 portholes at 4K, but it can be evened out in post. The 25 has some noticeable fall-off as well, but it's a very pleasing vintage look. All these lenses have a very organic, beautifully flawed (for lack of a better way to put it) and vintage look to the images they produce. I have not shot them at 4.5K. I would bet on the 18 and possibly the 25 to actually not cover 5K.

If my budget were not so tight right now, I'd be seriously tempted to pick up this set. There are lots of times I could use a set of lenses like this for stylistic reasons. That and they're still good lenses. I'm not sure I would recommend these as the only set of primes someone has on hand (unless they always want this look), but to have a set of these in the kit would be awesome. For an indie shooter on a budget looking to equip an EPIC-S. This could be the killer option for a starter set of primes. Just a thought....

Thanks for the good words Jeff.

It looks like the set is sold. Waiting for a check. If something changes, I will post it here. The selling price was the $3500 I was asking.

As much as I appreciate the offers (currently up to $4200), I made a deal with the first individual who offered $3500, and I am not going to back out on that deal. If he decides he doesn't want the lens set, then I will post here.

Best,
-Tim

Thanks for the additional info Tim. Good to see they sold quickly. Hopefully whoever bought them can post some images from them on a Red once they get them? Just for my curiosity's sake (and doubtless others' too).

Cheers,

Paul
