If we are shooting in the wilderness, were we will not have access to power,
is it possible to power the Red station, directly from a laptop ?

If not, how will it be possible to offload REDMAGs (SSD) on Set?

If you don't have AC power, how do you recharge the camera batteries?

How long do you think the laptop battery will last if it's bus-powering the SSD reader and the external drives you're offloading to?

I've also heard that the SSD module on the camera drains the camera battery much faster than the CF module or the Red Drive does...any truth to that?

Buy extra batteries as needed.

Too many variables to give an answer.

Electric car go fast = use more power

Electric car go not so fast = use less power.

Hi Julian, the RED STATION REDMAG 1.8" module can be powered of firewire.

thanks Alexander, great news. Do you have a Red station already?

is there any differents in turns of speed? by using the power of a laptop?

Its firewire 800 right?

thanks

Is it possible (or advisable) to recharge batteries off a cigarette lighter / 12v power source with a converter if you are not too far into the wilderness? Does this damage or shorten the life of the batteries?

which batteries are you talking about? red bricks?

if you are electrical savvy, you can rewire some mounts and batteries to run a laptop and red station all off battery power. I knew a steady cam up who ran his laptops, hard drives etc. all of his anton bauers with some rewired gear. he owned a ton of them and they worked great.

We're gonna need a big-ass new Nexto soon.

Red Bricks or any other camera batteries recharged via the cigarette lighter back at your truck or car with a converter. If you have to hike out for a full day of shooting, obviously you need to bring enough power with you. But if you are close enough to your vehicle then you could recharge a set of them while you were using the others. My concern here is whether or not this would harm the batteries - shorten their life span. Would a high end surge protector help? Thanks David and Tom for the help here.

ta da!

i'd still bring a lot of red bricks, even opt towards the giant brick batteries to run off of. if possible, I'd actually say bring MORE ssd mags with you and shoot all day on them and offload later if having a offload station is impossible. Personally it's not the best solution cause of media management laws of omg the footage is gone. but sometimes you do what you gotta do. I feel safer with the SSD over red drives. People shoot on P2 and SxS all day and offload later, SSD should be in the same level of security now.

You shouldn't see a huge dip in your power usage. For shoots in extreme conditions without power available to the DIT I’ve been using a Hawkwood Mac Power adaptor with great results for a year or so now. It’s a simple little adaptor that lets you use any v-loK battery’s to power your mac. On two Red battery’s I normally get a whole days usage. Details below:
