Dear Jim and team, could we please have some more info on the coming lenses you have mentioned earlier..

With Epics coming around later this year, some of us might be really willing to be informed and might have to consider which options to look out for when it finally ships regarding the optics.

Will the electronic lenses be available by the time the epic ships???

what about the mini primes (same question)?

what about the Red Anamorphs???

Some information would be great on this subject, as it might be very difficult for someone to figure out his future purchases without having any predictable timetable.

I think most of us would be delighted if you could give us a 100% real timetable, with even the worst case already being calculated in ( let's say some months), so we could be 100% sure ,
we then could make some decisions right now regarding optics.

any info appreciated.

I concur. While I respect the fact that delivery date, prices, specs etc are subject to change and I have no issue with that at all. At least we know now what the camera's are, what they are going to cost, and around when they are going to ship. When i'm thinking budget for Epic i have a pretty clear idea what the deal is, and i'm reasonably sure that summer 2011 is for reals time to say goodbye to 40k and say hello to new camera.

When it comes to glass i know i have to buy some, and about the Red Pro Primes and the Zooms and what all the 3rd parties currently have to offer. And if thats the whole picture then thats cool i can budget for whats known there. There's a heap of people with decisions to make and glass to buy and i think for a lot of people the Red Primes are not what we're looking for- and for a lot of people they are- it just seems to me that if there is going to be new options now would be a really good time to know about it. Lots of itchy trigger fingers out there...

I think Jarred has already revealed that the electronic zooms are tracking more alongside the FF Monstro camera and a ways off. But yeah, what about the Anamorphs? Mini Primes? Lacking an update on those two.. For a lot of people knowing if there will be a newly designed 50-150 to go with the 17-55 would round out the picture too.

Personally, i am really curious to know whether there will be electronic full-frame autofocusing primes at some stage? With Monstro perhaps? Because i can imagine those being pretty much the most awesome things ever. If they were coming and that could be confirmed i would hold off buying anything until then and just rent.

When it comes to glass at this level and we're talking pretty much once in a lifetime investments for most of us, a roadmap would be really helpful. Other company's don't really share roadmaps on these things either so as always any break from that tradition is gravy.

But we love Red because they are not other company's :)

So yeah, seconded. Any info appreciated

We really must be able to make some decisions and planning on optics.
especially concerning S3D. the electronics could change the deal a lot.

We now know the fixed version will be there aswell, and could make s3d shoots a lot cheaper, but my preference still goes to the changeable lens camera systems, giving us more options when not needed for 3d or when needed on different setups of shooting.

Not forgetting to mention lots of brands ask for advanced money on the order months before they are even made... so we'd better be informed by Red what to do with our future plans on purchasing equipment, I guess both of us , Red and their clients can't do any advantage in ordering the wrong gear because of some uncertainty. I can't see any damage on Reds side in giving us this information.
I know it's totally up to them to do it or not, but waiting until NAB seems quiet long for me right now... I've always been patience, and i still want to wait a long time when necessary , but I hate to live in ignorance of what I will end up with, and even worse, realising that I ordered different then what I could have got...
This is exactly why I still believe 100% in RED, just because of the early open policy they once had, which seems to be a little low these days.
I must thank Jim once again , for the latest update on the Epic systems and what they will be capable off, but a camera is nothing without a good matching choice of optics. We know a lot of possibilities are out there right now, but we have been announced RPA and electronics , and we all can't wait to have some update about them I guess.

Asked myself about the electronic lenses being ready at Epic's production
release and the answer was...after...

after... the pro RED electronic lenses are some of the most advanced lenses ever made.. so they take time.

... I'm betting we don't see RED's electronic lenses until we get closer to the next generation Monstro sensors as the lenses are designed to cover FF35.

good bet Jeff.

this is becoming each day more.. don't U see this is all a big scam?!!
