Bonjour everyone,

My friend Jean-Charles Wolfarth has just completed his first feature film...

Long ago, in a country bathed in light, there lived a lonely man with dark and secret thoughts. Patiently, with clumsy fingers under the blazing sun, he mended his days as others would their nets, with little hope of landing a miraculous catch. The sea joined him in silence. He lived each moment locked to the rhythm of the waves, lulled by the lapping tide, soft whispers in his ear.

It's a silent feature, so everyone should understand it ;-)

You can download the trailer and some stills on his website www.jcwolfarth.com

As usual, on Mac run VLC to watch the videos, the colors are better than with Quicktime.

Merci,

Kristin

The trailer looks great ! I love this kind of movie. :-)
Did you say a silent feature ? That's awesome !

Kristin, can you share a little more about how big the crew was ?
How long did it take to shoot ?

I would love to see the movie. Any release in the next few months ?

Thanks Stefan !

I wasn't on set but I followed everything. The crew was a very small one : less than 10 people, actors included. Jean-Charles likes when things are small. It was shot over one month in the south of France. Same spirit with the gear : everything could fit into a single car (crane, dolly, tripod, lights, etc...). The Red One did quite well, even during the heat... It's typically the kind of project where the Red shines : beautiful landscapes full of details, light setup, and huge flexibility.

It's an indy movie : we're currently looking for places worldwide to screen it, at 2K or 4K. I had the pleasure of discovering it at a private screening in Paris : it was gorgeous on a 40' screen ! I'll keep you posted if I get more info about distribution !

Hi Marc,

Thanks for sharing all these details. Much appreciated. :-)

Did you use only ONE Nikon lens ? Is it this one ?

NIKON 17-55 mm AF-S DX f/2.8G.

Do you prefer Nikon lenses rather than Canon lenses ? Why did you choose this particular lens ?

Beautiful! The images are stunning. And the Nikon glass performs admirably. I am using Nikon glass exclusively on a short I'm shooting right now and have been blown away by the performance, including some night focus pulls at 1.4 wide open on the 35, 50 and 85 lenses!

Hi Stefan,
yes, this is the Nikon we used. It´s a great little lens. Very little to no breathing, crisp sharp, beautiful color rendition and light. It´s built for the DX sensor which is similar to the S-35mm sensor, and distortion is corrected for this size of sensor. It´s a G-lens but with the modified Nikon mount from Douglas Underdahl it doesn´t need any electronic contacts to control aperture like the Canon´s. My Cooke 20-100mm was too heavy. Like I already said, sometimes we walked for a couple of hours under the bright sun and I had already 30kg in my backpack without the Cooke.
One more reason I could work with this lens: there was not a lot of pulling focus during shots.
BTW I forgot to mention there was one more crew member on the boat: Skipper Benoit. He had a lot of patience and helped a lot. He and one of his friends are the owner of the historical fisherboat. They restored it themselves. Should you read this Benoit: Thank you a lot, it was great meeting you!

Richard, which 50mm lens did you use ?

600 views and no other questions ? And no French one ? Come on guys, you're disappointing a woman here ;-)

French is just like love, you can't forget it... Here's some love...
