  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Must Have Fixed Scarlet add-ons?

Are you going to to be taking single shots lasting 3 hours? It should only take 10 seconds to swap out a battery. For economical reasons, I'd hope for at least 1.5 hours out of a RED brick; any less and I may have to get a 3rd battery which will obviously add to the cost. That's my only concern with how long the batteries will last.

Nope, but the standard battery clearly won't be enough. So, I would like to know what my options are. 3x standard batteries (i.e. RED Volt)? RED Brick? Any chance of higher capacity batteries fitting into the side handle?

Don't quote me on this, but I have a vague recollection of Jim or Jarred stating the RED Brick lasts 4+ hours. Edit: Ah, found it! So, 1 hour from REDvolt, 4.5 hours from RED Brick. Of course, subject to change like everything RED. Wish there was an "in-between" option, like a higher capacity RED Volt.

A battery the size of a Panasonic battery gives you an hour on the Scarlet, not bad in my opinion.

Did you ever shoot on the R1? the Red Bricks lasted 1 hour, and had a 60 second reboot time.

Right now, I'll live with the 1 hour redvolt, with a 10 second reboot.

I actually thought that battery options had been pretty well gone over. Not solidified, of course, but discussed in some detail.

We'll have the side-handle which gives ~30 minutes of actual record time on an Epic, presumably more on the Scarlet.

We'll have the battery module, which would allow us to hot-swap REDvolts and record forever.

RED Bricks will, as stated, last a very very long time on Scarlet.

And there is also the option for wall power.

I expect myself to want a RED Power Pack and a couple of of REDvolt batteries.

However, I think if we are talking about "necessities" to add on the fixed Scarlet, you can only make that decision as an individual based on the kind of shooting you do. If it's just to start shooting, pop in a CF card with the bare bones kit.

You can also use industry standard after market battery systems like Anton Bauer. Useful if you already have a significant investment in these for an existing video camera system. Like the Red Brick these will have to be cabled and mounted externally to rails or cage.

I'm thinking 4 Redvolts and side handle to start with. Add rear mount modules later.
