I don't know if anyone's heard, but the city I live in (Brisbane, Australia - the third largest in Australia) is facing massive flooding this week, along with a lot of the state that is already flooded. Nothing like this has happened since 1974, and 100 years earlier before that, even though we built a massive dam to prevent it from hapenning again...

Anyway, here's some pictures I took today as the flood water was coming up. The peak should be in about six hours (4:00am local time). These were taken between 11:00 to 11:45 am. I have some more photos on my TwitPic account taken at 3:00 (the water rose about a metre (3ft) in that time).

Our house is on the side of a mountain, high above sea level, but most of these photos were only about four minutes drive away.

If you could just find that other shoe!

Stay safe Stephen and hope the weather improves.

... And this is before the rainy season. Stay safe Stephen. Most of my family have been accounted for except one of my brothers - but he's on the Mary River, so we think he'll be safe.

Wow...
Got a home in Mt.Ommoney and my dad was telling me that was under water too...its crazy, one point when I was down there it was all about 'saving water' now there's too much water!

stay safe man

Yep - Wivenhoe Dam and Somerset Dam were at something like 16% two years ago - and 164% today...

By the way, Mt. Ommaney is just about two or three Ks past the bridge here.

It's been front page news here for about 2 weeks at least. At least on the major news web sites.

red#0031 was used in brisbane in october of 2007, some of the shots from that shoot were in the nab 2008 red reel...bummer to hear about this...hope you dry out soon.

What scares me is the thought of how bad this would be had they not built that dam...
