This story has recently been making the rounds, which I found to be quite affecting and worth viewing if you've got an interest in photography. Apparently, some guy stumbled upon about a hundred thousand negatives including undeveloped rolls of film from an unknown photographer who's undiscovered work stands up to some of Magnum's greats.

Her name is Vivian Maier, a very personal and reclusive nanny who lived with families and took care of their children, while harboring an unbelievably prolific avocation as a street photographer around chicago.

I've included a link to cool news report on WTTW on the find. Just scroll down a few posts to wednesday dec 22nd for the embeded video:

Quite amazing if you ask me!

Thanks Albert. I discovered this myself at the weekend. Her work is beautiful. So happy to see the guys who have taken up her cause have been well supported on Kickstarter.

Great story. I love her work. Thanks for sharing this.

Excellent story - so sad she didn't get recognition for her work before her death.

what's also amazing is the fact that much of her work is still in the film rolls, which means nobody has seen them including herself. Makes you wonder about the kind of passion one has, just for observing life and the act of capturing the moment for the joy of it. We're now so used to that instant gratification when we look at the back of our cameras. It does make me sad to think how she never had or wanted to share it with anyone.
