Hey guys I'm purchasing a used Red One MX executed on Tuesday. I however have a few questions about Red transfer of ownership.

1. Is it an absolute requirement? If not what are the consequences of not transferring ownership with Red?

2. Can it be done at Red the same day I receive the camera locally in L.A.?

3. What's the cost? And Evaluation (90 day warranty)

4. Can I take delivery of the camera, and later send it to red, or must the seller send it to red?

Help on this would be much appreciated.

I went through the same process with Ketch, who laid it all out for me. You take delivery of the camera on a lease to own agreement with the lease amount being the asking price. When the seller's Epic ships then you may change the ownership for a fee of $750. At that time you send the camera back to Red and they check it out and give yo a 90 day warranty. You also pay $1 as a buyout on the lease. Since you are not the registered owner you can't get firmware updates (Ketch was kind enough to take care of that for me) and I'm not sure what else you are precluded from.

Albert, from my own past experience with RED on the subject, ownership transfer involves "a $500 evaluation fee and a $750 charge for a 90-Day warranty." Call someone at the Bomb Squad, they'll tell you what it'll be in your specific case.

The correct answer was given by Chris, even so He missed to say that there is also a $100 evaluation fee ;)

You definitely need and want to have the camera transferred in your name as soon as possible, once the
original owner of record has taken delivery of their Epic in stage II.

Without the camera been in your name, you can not open an account at Red, and you can not download
software updates, and or Purchase anything form the RED store.

But if transfer of ownership is done before good buy Stage II to the original owner of record.

I own two cameras, one is in my name and one isn't (although I paid for it and have had it since it was delivered two years ago. The One that isn't in my name is up for an Epic upgrade (the other camera is going to be for stage 3). I'll have to sort this all out at some later point. But since I have one in my name I am a Red customer and have access to software and accessories. It is kind of a messy situation, fortunately the Legal owner of my camera (that isn't in my name) is a friend and is one block away. I will also be needing advice on how to transfer ownership, in my case, transfering ownership of my own Epic to myself, since the Epic will also be in my friends name. Can anyone follow this? I am still a bit annoyed about that Oct. 30 deadline for transfers back in 2009. I didn't see a warning that the rules were about to change and I got caught with my pants down and didn't do the legal transfer in time.

The one I am buying is not eligable for upgrade. Legally
The camera will be owned by me, (having an invoice for the sale) and I don't really care about the red account I use my buddies. So other than those two things is there a good
Reason to do it?

This is confusing. If the original owner has executed his or her serial number and paid the deposit for the Epic in stage II - that means we keep our RED ONE and can do what we want with them. Nothing to do with Epic. The new owner gets the RED ONE and the old owner pays for the Epic. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

RED's has stated that you can not transfer ownership until you have received your Epic. I think it is to avoid the confusion over who is to receive the Epic after the RED One has changed hands.

You're right. The original owner does not lose their Epic option unless they do a transfer process through Red.

You can do what you want with the Original R1 as far as you don't sale it out right before receiving your Epic, or god buy Epic.

RED has been very clear on this, sale your Red adn change ownership of it and you loose al right to the Epic,
and no matter if you put the deposit or not, you et it back, but no Epic.

For this the only way is to do a Lease Option To Purchase Agreement, with a One Dollar buy out, to be executed only after receiving
delivery of the Epic, and only hen the nLessee can Execute the One Dollar Buy Out and change Name of Ownership of Record with
Red buy sending the R1 in and Paying the fees.

My only question or concern is that when the transfer happens later on and the camera is sent for inspection and a repair bill shows up. Whose on the hook for that? I don't think its fair for the buyer to foot the bill specially if there is no way to know before the purchase.

The new owner of record off course, since it would have been using the camera for some time.

Al gear should be fully inspected and tested upon arrival, we always give our Lesseee/Buyer no less then 3 Days to do so, and al and any issues
with the gear would be fully covered by us for any repair, anything after that its either covered by Warranty or by new Lessee/Buyer.
