Just looking over recent announcements. Peter Jackson with “The Hobbit”, a film in 3D that went through all sorts of Pre announcement changes from one country to the other, and finally settling in New Zealand with Thirty Epic Cameras. John Schwartzaman ASC the DOP on “Spiderman”, with the 3ality TS-5 rigs using at least Four Epic Cameras. “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” - A 3D picture that will is be shot by Dariusz Wolski ASC. Also from Dariusz Wolski ASC with the new Element Tecnica’s Atom with the Epic Cameras (don’t know how many) in the new Ridley Scott Movie. Bryan Singer will be the DOP on the forthcoming 3D film "Jack the Giant Killer" which will experiment with HDRx™ in ‘Natural Lights’ situations. Lakeshore Entertainment’s announcement that “Underworld 4”, will be shot in 3D with Epic Cameras. And I must say; The Atom 3D rig looks like a “Real Beauty”, it’s just simply wonderful how it has been integrated into one small package. That’s just for starters!

Buon Natale Ketch!

Augurri di un felice anno nuovo. EPIC.

Grazie David, e Buon Natale anche a te ;)

Yes it will be a very Happy New Year for EPIC, it is clearer every day and with every new
announcement Jim and Jarred make, and just looking at the recap list Humberto made, it is
clear of what is to come in 2011 will be a very happy new year for Epic inn deed ;)

Anyone want to explain to me. . .

Anyone want to explain to me. . .

. . . how an over-under 3D rig even works? Surely, this beam-splitter approach can't duplicate the actual performance of two parallaxed eyes, so how on earth does it give a truly realistic 3D effect?

Thanks.

Just for the record, the only decent 3D thing I've ever seen was Muppet Vision 4D at Disney World.

Stephen,

S3D images acquired for distant object subjects will be taken with a Parallax side by side rig, but in
order to be able to shoot vey close to extremely close subjects objects in sS3D a Beam Splitter Rig is
indispensable, at it is the only way to get so close, do to calculations made on a side by side rig and
allowance of a Thru simulated S3D effect.

Parallax and beam Slitter are two entirely different animals as they achieve different shots, as you
would compare a Wide Angle with a Super Telephoto, both are lenses yet each have their purpose
and even so can be used alternatively for the same shots, each will give a different result.

Imagine, you start out with the small Epic Atom package, you take it from the “Tripod” to a “Steadicam” or to the “Scorpion Head” located in the photos at; http://www.technica3d.com/gallery/?albumid=5550282900518101697 Then you put the “Scorpion Head” on any kind of larger device such as “Crane” or a “Speed Boat”, or a or whatever.

I just wanted to apologist to Bryan Singer who I said has been named the DOP in the forthcoming 3D film "Jack the Giant Killer", when what I meant to say, was the DIRECTOR, were all looking forward to your use of HDRx™™ in ‘Natural Lights’ situations. Good Luck with the Atom, it’s a true ‘work of art’.
