  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How do you make these?! Vertical hanging, colored, fluorescent fixtures?!

So Ive been working on a couple of music videos but never had time to ask how these are assembled and put together. Maybe someone on here can help me out as I'd like to make these. I've also seen them in clothing stores and was curious...How do I make these? Firstly I believe they are fluorescent tubes wrapped in or placed in colored tubes. Secondly how are they powered from just one side and not using both sides connectors? Third, how are they all linked together for power and how are they secured so they dont fall out? And Finally can they be put on a dimmer board for selective dimming? Ive seen them in sizes from 14inches to 12 feet long.

I would like to know how these are made and assembled so I can replicate.

I have attached some images to give an idea of the look. Thanks for your help in advance!

You could carefully wrap a tube in rosco party gel for the color.

Isn't there an independent filament in each end of a tube? What happens when you only wire a single side? Maybe a small wire runs down the length of the back of the bulb?

If you've ever seen Kino Flo's Diva tubes then you know what I'm talking about.

Hey Cail,
The tubes in the pictures are not u-shaped and neither are the linked photos that Michael posted. I know what your talking about in diva tube but these are slim the size of a regular fluorescent tube and since I've looked at them up close I can tell you they are not u-shaped rather a single tube placed in what looks like a colored poly carbon sleeve. I was just asking to find out if there are regular fluorescent tubes that can be powered from only one side, not the diva tubes which I am familiar with. I believe the tubes are placed in a sleeve similar to these: http://www.creativelightings.com/T1...fety-Sleeve-Tube-Guard-p/cl-fls-t12-4-blu.htm

I was not trying to overlook your comment or anything else and I appreciate your input. I apologize if you think I was undermining you in any way. Thank you.

Coated tubes with a light shooting in from one end (maybe a small halogen bulb)? They look like some kind of designer fabricated prop made especially for the window display. I can't believe you could wire a flo tube to hang that straight.

The ones I looked at had U-shape tubes in them. Perhaps we saw different things, then?
