  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tonight's Lunar Eclipse - Rained Out?

Nothing but clouds here. Darn, had high hopes. We've been under snowfall most of the day, so it was a long shot. Hopefully Mark's got us covered with the Epic. Looks like it based on his photo.

Wonder how many megapixles and K's are looking up right now?

My MX is running a time-lapse with a 200mm, it is awesome. : )
Oh by the way crystal clear skies in Toronto. : )

The clouds moved out of here just in time. Actually I have some trailing clouds in the first of my TL shot.

This shot is from my NEX-5 with a Nikon 300mm. I'm rocking a Nikon 500mm f4 on the R1MX. Can't wait to see the final results. Have the R1MX tracking on a motorized Celestron mount. ;)

Muahahahahaaaaa...

My self and my 9 YO son are out in the cold cold night with cups of hot chocolate. Fun time.

Motorized tracking eh? We've had to settle for quick repos as La Luna moves through the frame.

It's clear as a bell here now.

right, but i meant more the lighting up of the moon, not necessarily the color i.e. there is still detail even in the shadow of the sun - what's the secondary light source?

Refracted light passing through the Earths athmosphere from the Sun behind it gives the moon that glorious RED glow.

Got the NEX-5 on a tripod and just taking occasional shots. I'm working with a guy who has a 14" Celestron CGE Fast-star or whatever telescope, which is like a 3900mm at f11 if we used the scope itself. But it was easy enough to rig up a mounting plate for the R1 to attach it instead of the optical tube of the telescope. That optical tube weighs about 45lbs, so the rig handles the R1 with ease. Seems to track quite smoothly. I'm anxious to check out the results - it looks pretty good on the R1 LCD.

Long eclipse... Barely into the recovery phase at this point.

my amateur attempt...

Starting to wish I had brought some hot chocolate... It's friggin' cold out here...

Ran out of hot chocolate some time ago after my son went to bed.
Think maybe I'll break into the Christmas Ginger wine, or better yet the Rum cake!
