  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

looking for steadicam

To what end? You can't buy any kind of professional rig for that money. Actually you can probably not buy the basic AKS for that money.

Action Cam for R1 is around $8500 to $9000 USD used. Not sure how lighter EPIC will fare on that Rig though. ($14K new)

Ive got a killer FS=PRO I bought out of Belgium that will be sweet for EPIC and it was $5K complete with Vest Gimbal, Arm, Case. Fly loaded 7D's now and its really smooth.

WEBSITE HERE and even cheaper in 2010. The Gimble is really high quality and smooth. http://www.fsprostab.com/english/price/price.htm

The glidecam stuff is pretty Janky under $5K

Hello, the actiocam will FLY Epic for sure , its the best rig out there money for quality, its actually a top brand next to top brands.
I wouldnt exactly call the FS rig a killer but sure it works, however there is a 1-10 gap in between the actioncam and FS.
So try and get an used actioncam, you will never regret this.
you have the correct money to find one.

I meant what do you want to use it for? If you plan on calling your self an operator and charging people the going rate, you are going to need at least $8k in AKS. If you just want to fart around on your own stuff, help out a buddy on a music video etc, then that's a different story.

I enjoy the indie scene. Im not planning on being a steadicam operator as my sole job.. id just like to develop the skill, so that I can do the big jobs when it comes down to it.. I would sub-rent high end gear on a per job basis (bigger jobs).. for smaller jobs (commercials, music videos, indie films) I think a cheaper rig like action cam would def cut the cake..

Im looking for an action cam at this point..
also, if anyone is local to OC/LA and would like to maybe trade some talents, I would love to try out the action cam before buying...

Heres what i can offer..
rental on camera, rental on my kowa lenses (very few of these out there)
Sound mixing, post sound design (I have a recording studio and am good with sound)
or whatever else may be needed...

Man you will need several years until you have the scale to take big jobs, you know steadicam operating is an art and a very difficult one no matter if you rent the most expensive rig out there. Its the op that does the job.
You say you want to test the action cam. Yes its a good rig and its not a low end , in fact its a high end rig and you can build it up to have all features. the arm is one of the best out there. But you will never tell how good it is if you dont know how to operate steadicam.
Go and get a course, there are plenty happening with good teachers. Then you will be able to know if steadicam is something you can do and you can take it from there, and after hard practising and a few years you might be able to get a big job.
There is a lot of things you must learn before you get to that stage.
My 2 cents out of my dozen years of steadicam experience.
Dont let your self be one of these who buy a rig to do the job on the cheap, then when they discover its difficult and tiring and demanding they sell their rigs for cheap.
Steadicam operators have a reason that they get payed many dollars for what they do and they certainly deserve this.
Either do it right or dont do it at all.
