I've just downloaded the trial to PP which I'm pretty unfamiliar with. V5.03. Seems to have no probs working with R3d's. I can right click clips and pull up settings and change all the parameters. My only issue is there are no 4k options when creating a new sequence. I've only got the typical DV formats available to me. Is the RED Plugin required for CS5? I tried installing it but nothing seemed to change. I'm stumped. I've seen Screen Caps where the New Sequence dialogue shows a RED folder where the 4k options would be, but I don't have that folder in my dialogue...

Thoughts?

Thanks,
CB

I had this problem when I first downloaded a trial version of CS5. I had to purchase it before getting the R3D support.... this may have changed now.

The trial version has such limitation. Once bought and a serial number is entered, you are good to go...

TY Guys, otherwise it seems to handle R3D's pretty nicely (Minus the new color science of course). I've already got the Design Premium suite so I can just upgrade that to get PP.

I am for the first time going to be delivering 4k, so is this the most advisable route? I was previously working in FCP with HD files out of RedCineX. It's killer that PP can access my 48gb RAM!

You can encode to ProRes just fine with Premiere Pro CS5. Needs to be a Mac, though, and legally you'll need to have FCP installed.

If PPro doesn't give you the R3D presets just drag you RED footage to the "Create new item" small button at the bottom of the project window and it will automatically create a sequence that matches the footage resolution and fps.
