I'm looking for filters that would give a circa 70's-80's-ish look. Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Jackson, Disco type look.

Beyond a star filter (which gives a sort of disco vibe) are there other filters anyone has used that fit the description.

Any suggestions or insights welcome... over the top or very affected looks welcome !

thanks in advance.

best,
Michael

Pro-mists, especially the white ones are very 80's.

Go to your local rental house and ask if you can paw through their no-longer-used filter drawer!

Thanks Craig. Any LA houses that are known to have all sorts of crazy old filters ?

Also, if you want real cheesy cheese, go to a long established camera shop (stills - think mom and pop stores) and ask them about Cokin. Cokin's market died so suddenly that many stores still have drawers full of weird filters they'll practically give you.

Fog and Double Fog. Two very different effects but both popular in that era.
The definitive late 70's/ early 80's diffusion to me is Supa-Frost, if you can find a set that's not all scratched up (these were resin filters, not glass, and came with a special cleaning fluid) I seem to remember they came in both white and black... but I was a very young lad then and have a hard time remembering that far back...
Cheers,
Harry

Pretty much any rental house that has been in business for a while will have filters that trace the history of all the visual fads of the different eras.

Clairmont (at least here in Toronto) has a ridiculously huge collection of filters.

Did someone say filters?
