Hey all.

This has been going on for weeks now. I have posted and searched hundreds of message boards for a solution to this, and now I am posting here to you fine people of the Apple disucssion board.

I am currently trying to transcode a project shot on RED for offline editing on my MacBook pro. To do so, I am converting the .R3D files to ProRes 422 (Proxy) on a 2X2.93 GHz Quad-Core MacPro with 12 GB of RAM.

The first 58 reels of footage worked fine. However, recently, for the last seven reels, one of two things happens. Either FInal Cut Pro quits unexpectedly, or the L&T Window works for about half of the first clip clip, and all of the clips show up green in the L&T window, and transcode as green.

To show you exactly what is happening, I hurridly put together a 3 minute screen grab video and posted it to YouTube as unlisted (sorry for the low quality) so you can see exactly what the problem is.

Today, after trying this on FOUR computers and ALL of them having the same problem, I decided to use REDCINE-X and the same thing happened! Either it would quit unexpectedly or turn all of the clips SOLID BLACK...

I also tried RedCine-X on the multiple computers.
Anyone have any ideas? I am desperate at this point.

Can you play it in Adobe Premier and After effects?
if it plays in AE render it in AE.
And have you just for checking tried RED Alert
I like to rule out those programs just due to the fact that it can help narrow down some ideas.

If your in the LA area I can look into it on my systems if that helps.
If its still a problem feel free to PM me ive been in similar situations.
If you have the orignal footage it was shot on i mean the RAID drive or CF card or a 2nd backup that was not a copy from the download but a 2nd download from the original source.
Check that version it sometimes is a corruption while downloading. Even though you got the proxy working ive seen issues where the R3D was bad and i reverted to my 2nd download.

best of luck
Luis

Red Rocket I think I heard will transcode corrupted clips without quitting - although the corrupted frames will still be there. The rest of the footage will be useable though.

Rocketcine-X would do that.

I am not sure RCX will do it.

But you can export it framebased through redline with and without the rocket, if I understood Deanan right...

Hey guys. Thanks for the responses. I'm sorry I was so late in getting back to all of you. I have been away all weekend and am just now returning. I will try your solutions ASAP and get back to you to let you know if anything worked. Thanks a lot, and have a great day.

Last time I used RCX with the rocket (About 5 days ago, latest build) it did stop exporting clips on a bad frame, it would report on which frame it stopped, and then carry on with the next clip. I am 100% sure rocketcine would continue and report which particular frames where bad. I do miss that functionality from rocketcine :(

Whenever I used RedCineX for this, it either quit unexpectedly on me, or turned the clips black when it hit a bad frame.
